Most of the motoring journalists quoting info from Skoda say it's based on the PQ25.

  • did i hear rapid VRS ? it should look like this

  • Cheeze - Have we had confirmation on what it'll be really priced at yet? It's all about more car space for your money, you can see it's a budget saloon, but you hardly get a good list of spec in a £

  • I said Yes Petrol as i am becoming more and more a fan of the TSI range of engines. Especilly the 1.4 T and the 1.4 S+T. all you people who are saying no to it becuase its going to be cheep and taccy

Pretty sure I read somewhere it's a hybrid mix like the Roomster?

Would be good if it gets the same chassis as the Fabia as my brakes and suspension goodies will swap right over. Hopefully its a 1.8 or 2.0TSI as well. Cant see Skoda being too keen to use the 1.4TSI tbh, plus being the next model up in the vRS league it needs to be quicker than the Fabia but less than the Octavia vRS.

Fab 2 vRS 180ps

Rapid vRS 200ps (maybe)

Octavia 3 vRS 210ps

oohhh sy , you thinking of a rapid vRS? (I will certainly check it out when it arrives!)

alot depends o on the engine.

i think if its a 1.4TSi i wont even bother test driving it. If its a 1.8 or 2.0TSi id probably buy one. It all depends when Skoda bother their arse to release it. I'm looking about for cars at the moment already.

Because of the "fit in with the rest of the VW range and have the cheaper choice" attitude that the executives their have for Skoda, it's bound to be a compromise and not what we really want. :wonder:

Octavia 3 vRS will be 220bhp petrol, 184bhp diesel, so 200bhp petrol and 150bhp diesel Rapid vRS would fit in the range. Even 170bhp diesel Rapid would fit in the lineup (at a push), though would be close to Octavia 3 numbers.

No mention of anything powerful on the Rapid yet, though, 122bhp/105bhp so far.

One worrying development I noticed is that Skoda appears now to electronically limit speed, at least on the 1.6TDI CR 105bhp engine. We went abroad with Roomster and it was quite happy to cruise at max speed of 118mph-121mph, seemingly with some torque left. But it would not let us go above that speed, even on long downhill runs across Central Germany. And now I see same engine in a much more aerodynamic car of similar weight, suspension and wheel size, and it still does 118mph. Top gearing is long enough to get at least 10mph more at this power, especially in Rapid shape rather than Roomster.

Just to substantiate my earlier post a little bit more, here is what I found with VCDS on my Roomster:

1_6cr_Vcds_Electronic_Limiter.jpg

190km/h in this and other fields cannot be changed, at least not without some security access code.

So from this and the fact that top speed listed in the specs is lower than it ought to be on account of more streamlined shape than the Roomster, it looks like Rapid may also be limited to 190km/h... :(

Quiet since January - any more (substantiated or otherwise) rumours floating about? All the vRS talk nowadays seems to be about the Octavia vRS coming soon at Goodwood...given the outside similarity, could it be a Skoda double-bluff?

Would be nice to see a Rapid vRS sat next to the new Octavia vRS at Goodwood!

It would be nice but I really don't see it happening. Like I said in the other thread, I expect some sport-type spec to come along at some point though.

Sport one would be nice but alas it'll probably have the 1.2tsi and 1.6cr both 105bhp and styling bits.

Tbh mine with the bigger wheels, privacy and soon to be spoiler look fairly sporty.

Needs a phat exhaust

As nice as a vRS spec would be; I'd be happy with a sport-esque model (Fabia Monte style) with the 1.4 140PS ACT lump...fast, frugal and looks the part..

If not, I'll probably have to try for an Octy (chances are slim based on current pricing). Or is that what they're hoping?

One thing I would have liked is the three spoke sport wheel with the red stitching like the one in the Citigo Sport but I got as close as dammit to my ideal spec which is pretty lucky for an ex-demo car.
