I have had it with these pipes on this car.

Featured Replies

So, driving back from my parents place tonight, and I have popped ANOTHER boost pipe. That was a fun limp home from Swansea to Bristol...

3rd pipe now to fail, and the lugs on the pipe are knackered - folded one back on itself, and the other got a sharp lip on it, preventing it going back into the clip. Its the one at the top of the intercooler going to the hard plastic pipe running to the left of the engine. I've had it & need to fix this problem once and for all.

Three questions:

Anyone local to Bristol got a spare I can buy / borrow? I'm sure it'll cost another £80 odd (same as lower one). Or should I just bite the bullet and get

What are my options for an upgrade - I know forge do the collars, and I can buy samco pipes, but I'm clueless to sizes etc.

Anyone taken this ****ty design flaw up with Skoda Uk?

If your going the trouble of changing the pipe work, you might as well fit a diy FMIC or get the £200 kit on eBay or if your mentally ill get the Forge one.

Don't think its a Skoda problem more a VAG problem as them guff bayonet style connectors are used across the ranges

Pretty sure sfs do a lot to replace these pipes with silicone ones

SFS still use the same style connectors though so your not gaining anything by using them !

Replace both male and female parts of the pipe and use new clips and it should be ok.

That pipe is about £28 from the dealers. I know because mine popped off a while back too and the clips were broken.

Greening has some Samco replacement pipes in the for sale section.

Cycled to TPS first thing this morning - £32.16 for a new one & all is now well.

Bottom one which I replaced earlier this year was £82 ish!?

That same pipe would have been 37.50 at sfs with decent cast metal connectors and not the standard rubber with metal coating on standard :-) might be worth getting hold of sfs and replacing the pipe underneath and the one going into egr aswell.. they will do straight swaps as they do basically every pipe for the fabia . I have used them as they are in luton where I work , they make it from scratch and their connectors are sooooo much better

The top and bottom intercooler pipes are always the weak spot on the pipes. This is due to them being the pipes that are joined onto a fixed point on the car and so when the engine moves they are flexed and get moved around and wear the lugs down eventually.

Just fix them properly with some self tappers :)

Will never pop apart again

Also you have all that power wanting to go in straight lines and the top on bottom pipes at either end our 90 degree bends

Lol softscoop my bottom pipe has 3 in it :) lasted three years and still no issues

Yeh... have you ever seen how much the pipes move and expand when the engine revs!

It's amazing they last as long as they do with those naff clips.

If any of mine ever pop off again I'll either get some SFS or similar replacements or depending how funds are at the time some self tappers in 'em!

When it next goes pop, I will replace them with upgrade parts for sure.

Not interested in going FMIC, I like to keep things relatively stock on the car.

SFS only seem to list one thing for the VRS @ £220!! I guess this is the whole kit though? Might send them an email when I have some spare ££ =)

Yeah but that includes the pipe from egr right down to the intercooler, its a thicker pipe then standard as does not reduce in size like stock thus more airflow , also by being one full piece it gets rid of a few connections as only one at each end.. and their connectors are a solid cast so will be better then stock. However ask for a 90 degree reducing elbow which goes from 57 down to 51 and that will fit from egr to the black plastic pipe.. ask for the uprated vag connectors they do.. then its just two 90 degree bends.. one behind headlight from black plastic pipe down to intercooler AMD the bottom 90 degree pipe underneath the car... Be much cheaper.. I paid 37.00 for the top pipe near egr from them and that includes an updated Murray clip which is far superior to the clips on the car or a jubilee.. worth it
