5 year warranty

Featured Replies

Has anyone had problems with the extended five year warranty?

My father ordered a brand new yeti urban and took delivery last week.

Turns out dealer didn't register the extended warranty and even though monies exchange hands noone wants to honour the warranty.

We have been offered various options including full refund but skoda uk customer Service nor the dealer seem willing or able to extend the warranty.

Thanks....

Did you buy the car cash or using a loan / credit agreement for the car? If it's bought on any type of credit agreement then the consumer credit act may offer you some sort of recourse (but probably not if you took out a loan elsewhere to get the cash to buy the car)

Ordered the 5 year warranty on my soon to be built car. One thing has always bugged me though - why do Skoda only let you get a 5 year warranty on factory build cars (and not nearly new/ex-demos etc)? Do they take extra care when building or something?

Hi

I too tried to get the five year warranty after ordering the car. No go! The reason I was told is that they code the engine management chip differently to reflect the different warranty term and that this has to be done at the time of building!

Oink flap, Oink flap!!

I assume the hidden "expire after X years" dial has to be turned up to 5. ;)

It's the same on all VAG cars including Audi.

You only get the (as good as main dealer) extended warranty if it's ordered at the same time as the vehicle.

There is nothing the dealer can do if you want to add it later.

I can only guess this reduces there costs (and generates more profit) further down the line, as they are very good value for money.

On the Citygo it's only an extra £260 for upto 5 years or 100,000 miles!

All this talk of factory spec and

I'm sure if you got this in writing you could sue them or something!

In my experience with other car companies the extended warranty has nothing to do with the factory, it's all underwritten by the UK based distribution company (eg Toyota GB, Skoda UK etc). The factory probably offers Skoda UK a 1 year warranty and anything else is simply a country specific deal (I used to work in a major car factory who offer a 1 year warranty as a factory to the country distributor but the distributor offered 5 years, and certainly never had to code anything into the vehicle!)

one question,

if you extend the warranty to 5 years / 100k

does the skoda assist extend as well?

If it's the warranty extension taken out as part of the options when ordering, then yes. It's exactly the same as the year 1-3 warranty as long as you are within the 4 year/80K and 5 year/100K allowance. I'm not sure what any extension you add, after the three years are up, would cover.

Having ordered the Citigo with the 5 year warranty I began to think about upping the 3 year warranty on the Yeti, which is due any day now.

I spoke to the dealer - who after referring to "Admin" came back with a Yes!

Then I looked at the brochure price for the extra 2 years and its £640 which is a sizeable chunk, and like SWMBO says "that's a holiday somewhere.

So I guess that's the end of that!

Thought I would post here so that people will know what my dealer says.

Now he may be right he may be wrong, but at least its quotable.

I was told by my dealer that the warranty could be ordered at any point before the vehicle was registered. I got confirmation of the warranty extension at the same time as being told the Yeti had got to Grimsby.
