Suspension bushes ....

Featured Replies

I am sure everyone is slowly getting tired of posts about suspension bushes, but I am afraid I cannot help asking a question about them. At least it's not a verbatim copy of something asked lots of times before :-)

I was advised my Fabia will fail the next MOT if I don't have the suspension bushes replaced. This is the third year I have had the "deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement" comment, so I guess it might be the time. They also said the deterioration is getting to the point where the car will start shredding the front tyres, so perhaps it's best not to wait until just before the next MOT. Then again, the 2011 advisory mentioned both sides, whereas this year it's only one side that is deteriorated :-)

I am having the clutch and front brakes replaced at "Mr Clutch". They said they could replace the bushes for me as well, but also said they did not know exactly what bushes I meant as there are several in the front suspension. I always thought there was "the" bush that would always go on the Fabia. The MOT report says "Nearside front lower (rear mounting) Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement [2.4.G.3]".

So my questions are: How do I unambiguously tell them what to replace? Should I maybe take it somewhere else, seeing as there is a good chance the repair will go wrong if they don't know which bushes are the ones that need replacing on Fabias? Should I ask them to also replace some other bushes not mentioned in the MOT advisory above?

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Having see what some tyre places do to consoles and bushes to fit them I would take it either to a dealer or a good independent.
