Just to clarify, TT wishbones?

Featured Replies

I've had my coilovers sitting on the lounge floor for a good few months now and its about time I got them fitted....

Whilst playing with the suspension, I think it is best to change to the talked about TT/R32 wishbones with the adjustable camber (hate paying for new tyres just because the camber on a lowered car eats tyres quicker).

Buying the wishbones is simple enough, and I've heard there is a bit of faffing (spacers etc) if you keep the standard hub assemblies so I am looking into sourcing the TT hub assemblies.

Now, when routing through old topics there is talk of swapping round the tie rod ends but from what I gather.....this is only if you stick with the standard hubs?

If I get the TT hubs, and the TT wishbones, do I NEED to do the tie rod ends? I have ESP so I think I can't get the "quick rack" anyway....

Yes you will have to swap over the VRS track rod ends for TT ones as you are using TT hubs. I also believe you can fit the VRS ones upside down to compensate.

Or if you keep std VRS hubs you can keep std VRS rack and rod ends but this defeats the overall benefit of the TT set up and also why folks have to fit spacers to std VRS Hub and TT wishbones. So do it right fit the whole lot. (as what i did)

I would also fit a TT rack it were me.

Wouldnt this be an issue if I have ESP?

I read somewhere this messed with the sensors if fitting the rack aswell

Cant do that mate as he has ESP which has a steering angle sensore unlike our ASR that doesnt have one. the steering angle sensorewill think the car is trying to do something different due to the 1/2 turn less lock if that makes sence.

Back to the OP:

do it right mate and go the whole hog. TT wichbones, TT Hub assemblies and vrs flanges, Ball joints, Castor bushes.

Dont get the TT tie rod ennds as they are thicker threads, for simplicity just take the ends off your rods and swap sides, this will just make them point up instead of down. also neans you dont need to disturb the rack at all.

Just so Happens I have the hole lot lol, only needs some brake backing plates to match your brakes. Might have them too if the ones I have are not big enough to go round the 323mm Brembos. you cant use std ones neither.

Billy

The TT rack isn't all that TBH

ESP is a vastly more useful than a marginally tighter lock, but 'heavier' TT rack

The Wishbones give a slightly tighter turning lock in themselves anyway

Don't be plonker and fit these wishbones without the superpro castor correcting bushes.

These bushes, along with the camber adjustable balljoint, are the real reason you should fit TT wishbones.

Sorry Billy yep you are right forgot OP mentioned ESP. so no can't fit a TT rack.

Yep sorry as above you can't fit a TT rack but not a big issue as the overall benefit is in the wishbones and Hubs and as mentioned reverse the Tie rod ends from your VRS rack and you will be fine

Anyone else have issues with the brake backing plates rubbing on the brake discs after this conversion? or am I meant to change this over aswell?

I think it was only the 4x4 that had ESP? I also have a load of bits including a full Leon Cupra R subframe and cast arms to go on (one day?)

Na mate esp was std iirc on 4x4 but was an extra on other cars might of come std on the L&K too?

Was also std on the wrc.

As for catching nope no trouble here. Something not right if it is mate.

Ha Ha that is funny

So if you don't have ESP you can fit a quick rack, bonus...

If you have fitted TT hubs you must fit the TT Disc brake rear dust covers, else you might get rubbing.

But also you could of bent your covers and they are rubbing on discs' check that out first. But I replaced my covers for TT ones. They are not dear.

Dont thiink the std covers will even fit as they wont go over the extended part the ball joint goes in?

unless your really heavy handed you wont bend them neither.

could of been bent in transit tho so as said check.

you dont need dust covers anyway 4 or 3 bolts takes them off and throw them in the bin!

Sorry...... ok the car runs without them but they stop an amount of carp getting into and between disc's and calipers plus keep the hubs/drive shaft clear of flying carp too. as the Manufactor put them on i would tend to keep them on.

yep the bolt up different Billy I recall that now, you do need TT ones if using TT hubs
