Any one before i call out an auto electrician???? the engine starts fine and the stereo and lights work ok...???

Check the fuses?

Bad earth somewhere maybe.

A simple thing like an exposed wire or a blown fuse can send electrics psycho!

i will have a check in a minuet, ive left the battery disconnected for a bit...

Thats a water into the passenger footwell issue for sure.

Your plenum drains are probably blocked, this has caused in recent rainfall for water to come in around the pollen filter housing. There will be water and/or corrosion in and around the connectors behind the passenger side a pillar kick trim and under the carpet on the passenger side where the central locking control unit is.

Also worth checking the node joint under the carpet at the back passenger side, might well look like this..

It will want

Plenum drains unblocking and resell pollen filter housing, maybe engine ecu box too

Remove interior trim and carpets

Assess condition of wiring and carry out repairs

Assess condition of control unit and replace and code if required

Wet vac interior and refit or replace as required

Clear all fault codes

Did one last week, end bill was about £750 but that needed a new control unit. I repaired the nod joint, looked like this after

just been out and a 10a fuse had gone, everything working apart from the boot lid....???

I'd be keeping an eye on that fuse, and I would definitely remove the passenger side still trim, just one Phillips screw at the front behind a plug and lift the carpet up and check for water.

i will look now and let you know

When you get that trim off look at the pink connector at the front of the bunch, the wiring for the bonnet switch is in that block and is normall the first one to cop it.

oh yes, pulled the trim off the wiring blocks are fine thank god but the carpet is damp.Hopefully caught it before it get to bad if there is such a thing.Pulled pollen filter off and wacked a bit of sealent around it.Dont know if it will work but its worth a try.The chap down the road said he had the same problem with his and he got a garage to knock out the drain plug underneath and hasnt had a problem since. He said the plug is near the bulk head but couldnt be anymore help.Do any of you guys know where the drain plug is so i know what im looking for tomorrow. It a right blag this first trouble ive had with it.Ive had it two and a half years and before that it was my late farthers car and he had it from new.

Yeah, best thing is to knock out the bungs or at least one of them. One is under the battery, the other is under the servo. If you take out the battery and the tray you can get to both of them.

Can i get to them from underneath? to save pulling out the battery?

They are above the, steering rack so really difficult to get to

Bloody typical...lol...The blok across the road gave he some kind of in car dehumidifier. He said it worked well on his,you just put the crystals in the tray and pop it under the passenger seat.Time will tell.......

Whilst the silica crystals won't do any harm (as long as they're kept in the tray), the water has already come into contact with the wires. You may be fortunate and not be bothered by this issue again, but it's likely that corrosion will occur and cause faulty connections. No harm in trying it, but bear it in mind if any future electrical problems occur.

Get those bungs removed from the plenum chamber and check the door seals too. It's a lesser known issue but can lead to the same result.

weather permitting im going to bite the bullit and strip the seat/carpet out and do the job properly. The car is spot on a deserves a good looking at its only got 58 tho on the clock and its on a 53 plate.

Ive stripped down the pollen filter and removed the plug under the battery but im buggered if i can find the one under the brake servo???? where the hell is it????

If you follow the clutch pipe down if yours is a manual that goes through it, it's just under the edge of the servo.

All done thank god thats over....lol...I think i have been lucky as the wet had only gone half way down the front foot well....I got the wifes hair dryer in there and left it on for two hours so its all dry now.I used sealant on the polen housing.Hopefully thats it,i checked the drivers side aswell but it was bone dry..HIP HIP HOORAY.....Only problem is my boot lid wont work off the fob or off the button in the door panel, any ideas what it could be ??? do i need to reset the central locking????? When the fuse went could it have tripped something out????

Need to see if there any fault codes.

Did you open the ecu box up?

  • Author

Yeah i opened it up and it was bone dry.

I'm guessing an unrelated issue then, nothing springs to mind though other than a faulty solenoid.
