Alloy Wheel Refurb

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm just looking for feed back and advise on alloy wheel refurb

I have a 2006 Octavia VRS and all the wheels seem to be flaking big lumps of lacquer.

If i go for the option where someone can do it in the day, where i believe they break the bead on the tyre and refurb the outer face dose this last? Ive heard stories that it's a waste of money as it all flakes off again.

Also any advise on the best guys to do it in the North Yorkshire area.

Many thanks

Gary

Well if they can do it in a day that solves one problem.

Anyone had a face respray, good idea or bad?

We use Ace Dentura based in Leeds.

They are mobile as well.

Guy called Gavin, top fella and not too expensive.

Google them for a number.

Wheel specialists do a great job, had a few sets of wheels done by them and they always look first class. They do a same day service but you need to get the car to them first thing on a morning and it will be done by the end of the day

Were the wheels that you've had done a full refurb or just the face?

Full refurb!

I had my vRS Zenith alloys refurbed and powder coated.

When I picked the car up they were a different shade of silver than when it went in.

They offered to spray them the correct colour (L1H7).

Picked the car up and they looked ace.

Washed it last week and the paint is peeling off.

It's now going back in for a third time so they can be powder coated again from scratch - this time in the correct colour!

Powder coat is more durable than paint...

Where was that Silver

Not the best picture but this is mine -

I do lots of colour changes on wheels without removing the tyres, just breaking the beads. Although powder coating is great, I can have a set of wheels done in half a day in any colour, mixed to your taste basically, and I dont get issues with durability, otherwise I would be out of a job.

I did Steve954's VRS spiders in a custom colour and people always compliment him on the choice.

I'd rather not say as I am still in the middle of getting it resolved, however a quick search of the Octavia II forum should reveal all.

Once everything is fixed I'll share more!

Doesn't say which part of north Yorkshire you're in but I once went to the jag specialist in Elvington to enquire about something and got talking to the owner about the e types outside, then he showed me round including the alloy refurbishment, explaining each process. Seemed quite knowledgeable and the end result looked perfect

I'm in Ripon.

Thanks for all the feedback people, looks like a full refurb is the only way to go ;)
