Early stages of DMF fail, Suggestions on New clutch?

Featured Replies

Title says all really...

Was having a bit of fun with my mate who owns a 1.6 zetec s ( new shape ) and started to notice my clutch slipping when i was going up a hill. (whilst leaving him in my black trail) ;)

But anyways, have any ideas on what would be a good idea on clutch to purchase? i know converting it to smf is talked about but i hate the chatter. But on the other hand i dont want to be spending daft money on a clutch at the same time. Car's running around 175bhp with 300 ish Torque.

Any suggestions/advice would be really appreciated :)

Standard SMF won't have any chatter. Mines very quiet now and responsive. No idle noise.

Valeo and Sachs do these kits but the lighter flywheels do chatter I believe.

What kind? as ebay just seems to through loads up, wouldn't wanna jump and buy the wrong one you see :/

Thanks for your advice !

They are available through ECP. Mine was done under warranty with a genuine solid flywheel and clutch kit but they are around £700 to buy from the dealers. Valeo ones I have read are around £300 incl clutch and bearing. Sorry don't know much about the Sachs ones.

Any websites i can have a look on that you know?

Thanks!

I was looking on the GSF this morning and they have a Sachs [not listed as such on their site though, I called the Belfast branch and confirmed.] DMF and Clutch for £390 inclusive of their 10% that they're currently offering and VAT.

I'm running the same BHP and Torque as you it should be fine as my car has 104K I think on the original units.

I have a Jabbasport Heavy SMF - It makes a horrendous racket!

I managed to get 25% off at ECP that included clutches etc.

Got a Sachs clutch, DMF and LUK slave cylinder for £360.

I was thinking about an SMF but after seeing all the youtube videos of ratty noises I was put off. The garage also advised against doing it due to past experience of rattles and vibrations.

What way did you manage to get the 25% discount? I couldn't find the code for it online for the clutches.

PM Me it if you have too please :)

Well what happened was I had originally put all the parts in my basket and then when I realised that the briskoda 25% discount didn't apply to those parts I left it. I then got an email the next day saying that I had left some items in my basket and if I still wanted them then here is 25% off.

I think it was specific to my account but not sure.

Phil

Hmmm worth a chance i suppose...

I'll let you know how i fair :)

Thanks guys, gsf? and Euro Car Parts im guessing? ??

Much appreciated

nope, German Swedish French :) Different chain same thing.

That said i've just purchased mine from ECP with help from Phil above! 340 for clutch bearing and dmf, very happy boy.

Cheapest place I have found at the moment, including all things such as the slave cylinder etc was from Darkside at £414 delivered.

Just seen the above post, care to share this insider info please?! ;) haha

After doing my own research on this (reading tonnes of threads) and speaking to a mechanic friend, I've come to the conclusion that SMF is only worth it if pushing more than just a remap. For standard/stage 1 remap, OEM clutch and a DMF of decent condition is fine.

My clutch is starting to slip post remap also, I've got a SACHS kit lined up to go in, and will have the DMF assessed when it's all out.

Does that include the flywheel bolts too?

#AFAIK Brisk25 doesn't work on Clutch kits.

This worked for me about 4 hours later I got an email offering the discount :) You do need to register for the site for this to work though.

I actually haven't checked the box but I will when I get home tonight and let you know.

Just to update the thread, I tried this method and it too has worked!........However they have no slave cylinders in stock at the moment :wall:

If you could let me know about the flywheel bolts, on the description it mentions 6 screws included - which I presume to be the bolts needed.

I got a bearing in the Belfast store last night. :(

It was showing no cylinder in stock when I first went to order then they suddenly had some stock in when I finally ordered.

The garage never mentioned or charged for any extras and I think mine came with all the bits needed including bolts but can't say for sure as I never saw the delivered parts.

Phil

Sorry totally forgot to check this last night!

I'll do it tonight!

Does that include the flywheel bolts too?

Indeed it does :)
