VRS School Playground Whistle!

Featured Replies

Hi!

I'm a new member and a new Fabia VRS owner! I was first attracted to the Fabia VRS by its claimed MPG and the fact it boosts fairly good looks and a reputation for reliability but since owning my VRS I have been mildly disappointed :(

I've got a bit of a boost leak..not like any other..sounds like a teachers playground whistle and its not described on other posts like that!

I've been all over the hoses and checked they are secure and don't appear to leak so I am not sure where to start? There is at times a definite lack of power on boost especially when its making this whistle..

Also I looked through the car's paperwork and I found "hole in intercooler where intercooler bracket broke" however I've looked at the intercooler and it seems fine and I think it was the replacement because I found the bracket!

Any help would be appreciated because I'm not sure what to do next!?

(also there is a fair bit of oil around the armature that sits at the top of the main boost pipe)

hope you can help!!

You lost power since it started? Depending on loudness could be turbo

is it just when idling all vrs' have quite a loud turbo whistle when at idle but couldn't tell for sure unless heard

It is under acceleration..as in harsh acceleration under load.. Im hoping to get a video or sound clip of it however its hard to capture.. its loud enough that you can hear it going up the road.. :o

Power is normal as far as I can tell

Mine does this too, a really loud whistle under hard acceleration!

After a small search through the forum perhaps the problem is more common? I'd say it was a problem as if you look at a few of the videos on Youtube of acceleration etc the VrS's don't whistle?!

all 1.9tdi's whistle, mine does it, my mothers does it, my mates golf does it as well as my mates leon, and ibiza fr's

I accept it has a standard 1.9tdi whistle..but on top of this it has a slightly lagged VERY loud "school playground" style whistle on heavy boost..just like there is a very small boost leak..I'm going to have to get a sound clip aren't I!?

i had a loud whistle which increased in pitch under load. found out what it was when a clip failed mid-overtake, pipe burst off and lost power :wall:

check the clips!! i had checked for rips/splits in the pipe but didn't check the clips. mine was the clip that seals the pipe to the intercooler and is very difficult to inspect.

i am with you on this one.. mine was the one underneath the car that connects to the turbo, dont think the group of cyclists i was passing at full throttle when it popped off were very happy with the masive soot cloud they got to eat!!

My boost pipe underneath of the car that connects to the turbo is rattly? You can move it and it will clunk?? Sound normal??
