Skoda/VAG compatibility

Featured Replies

Hi all

I know alot of parts a shared between the VAG group and im wanting a few bits for mine.

Will a cruise control stalk from any VAG work with mine?

Steering wheel? (i know the Mk5 Golfs are a straight swap but are the Audi's ect?)

Will the looms from these donor cars work also? (so all is needed is fitting and coding?)]]

Also random question, Mk6 Golf steering wheel, will my airbag fit?

Nick P changed his steering wheel - there's a thread on here somewhere so I presume it can be done.

NIck's has the vw airbag - skoda one won't fit a vw wheel IIRC.

Thanks

Iv just bought the cruise control, brand new from VW for £65 with loom :)

theres so much stuff i want for mine :( Just spend £70 on Skoda parts on random small stuff, this OEM+ look is expensive!

Steering controllers with HW and SW 638 0070 won't accept CC, but otherwise VW & Skoda stalks are interchangeable I believe.

The Mk 6 Golf (MFSW) wheel is very nice, but needs the latest 'CH' steering controller. AFAIK only VW branded airbags fit, but having seen several Skoda airbag 'covers' on eBay I was wandering whether it might be possible to swap the badges over...

Was the 'loom' you refer to for the CC or for the (MF?) steering wheel?

CC wiring, they have also offered to fit it for me aswell (techy from VW teesside) so it will done right :)

It would be a brave soul that tried to swap a badge; I think the only hope would be to bond one on top of the exisiting rather than trying to jemmy off the VM one. That said you have to remember that an airbag deployment takes approximately 30-55 milliseconds. Given that it takes approximately 100 milliseconds, or 1/10 of a second, to blink and that the airbag is travelling at over 200mph, I would suggest that you stand a strong chance of having a Skoda logo embedded somewhere in your upper torso :-)

I suffered my first airbag deployment last July when I wrote the other VRS off and I was astonished at the sheer violence of the whole thing. Not to mention the fact that my ears were ringing for days and I suffered a fractured skull from the impact of the bag!

Mess with airbags at your peril........
