Towbar Mk1 estate Octavia Diesel

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm after a towbar for my Mk1 Octavia estate (04 plate). Does not matter if it has no electrics.

Does any Audi or VW towbar also fit?

I have a detachable westfelia towbar on my vrs with standard 7 pin single electrics wired into a bypass relay then into rear lights as apparently standard wiring carnt take extra current draw from towbar electrics on its own.

I then found power for relay under steering wheel behind headlight switch in main fuse and relay box as it needs to be 30amp permanent live supply or at least my bypass box does.

Err does that mean it's not a good idea to wire the bypass relay thing to the err cig lighter with a fuse?

I dont have a bypass relay on mine, never had any problems so far.

No bypass relay as such on my estate, and no issues. I have a relay for the indicators, and a beeper to give the audio indication that the trailer indicators are working.

I picked up a towbar from ebay for about £50 (iirc) with free delivery, made by Tow Quipe, which must have cost a fortune as it came with a replacement crashbar.

30amp feed = 720watts. Surely that can't be right, even if you had all the trailer lights on?

2 x indicators (42w)

2 x brake (42w)

2 x fog (42w)

2 x tail (10w)

2 x numberplate (10w)

2 x reverse (42w)

Total = 188watts

The only thing I can see you wanting to upgrade is the earth wire ;-)

Got mine from the scrap yard for 20 quid lol

Think they all come built with a crash bar

The reason for the high amperage is for the power feed to a caravan (white socket) to power the fridge on the move.

I've got my westfalia detachable up for sale, includes twin electrics, split charging relay and spare keys.

It's in the For Sale section now
