Discovered an issue with waxing the vRS

Featured Replies

Well on Sunday I spent the day on the vRS, first a claybar session, then a polish, all followed up by a nice bit of wax (Zymol Carbon).

Car looks lovely, but every time I open the rear hatch after rain, the rain streams off the flat bit of the hatch and some lands in the boot.

Find myself keep having the dry the edge plastic trims that the rear shelf sits on. :wall:

Join the club, it's a result of the design so everyone suffers from it. If you open the boot slowly when there is water pooled it's not as bad.

Annoying isn't it, gets me everytime..

Yep, not a new problem. Not helped as the hatch is a fairly large area due to the Octy2 design.

As said, you just need to be mindful and remember to open it slighly differently when it's been raining! I tend to open and hold half-way for a few seconds, then let it rise up the rest of the way on its own. Tends to slow the flow of water down and *most* of it then goes down the channels at the side as it's supposed to.

Yep not the best bit of design in the world.

I've got an estate, so no problems here muthaf*ckers!!

Annoying, but not as bad as my old Passat, that used to dump a good litre of snow or rain in the boot as it was not a hatch.

Yes all in the same boat.I hold mine at halfway until water drains off down the channels then let it raise.

I had this issue with my ex bosses old car (SL 55 AMG). Opened boot after heavy snowfall to load his car up and wahoo I filled it with snow instead!

Yeah, you just get the rear of the car far more dirty and covered with water when the car's on the move instead! :p
