Retro fit Columbus question

Featured Replies

Afternoon folks,

I will be replacing my Bolero with a Columbus shortly, latest LED version in my September 2011 vRS hatch.

I have recently installed a 7P6035730F BT module using a kit from carsystems.pl.

I don't have MaxiDot or a MFSW, though they will come later.

Question now :-

Can you drive the voice control without a MFSW, does the unit have a button to start voice control if you don't have a MFSW ?

Reason I ask is that the carsystems.pl BT loom has the ability to push the mic (installed up in the light cluster) via the Columbus and then back out to the BT module. At the moment it is connected directly to the BT module with the Bolero installed.

Many thanks,

Paul

yes the columbus has a button to start voice control,if it connected directly to the bluetooth you will only get bluetooth voice control if you want full voice control you have to do the full loop ...i have the same bluetooth ki from them

Yep there is a button to start voice control. Had the columbus fitted with voice control but without the original BT module. (seperate Parrot)

This is good to know as I have just ordered the same BT module and the same cabling from CarSystems.pl but will be fitting it to a pre-FL though.

I have reservations as to whether the BT will work with the pr-FL though.... Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the replies.

Must say I was impressed with the BT retro-fit working with the Bolero, I'm hoping that it will work as well with the Columbus.

I had some ICE black carpet kicking round so have taped that to hide the module if the passenger seat is ever pushed all the way back.

Next I will look at MaxiDot and MFSW, daft having to import a MFSW from Europe for a manual, downside is that I will need a new steering module and mine is the newer integrated style.

Have to look and see what I can flog on Ebay, bits I took out of my old A3 will have paid for the Columbus.

The install in a pre-FL car worked fine for me mate. The only thing i couldn't do is get phone on the pre FL maxidot.

Thanks for that - as I don't have Maxidot that's not going to be an issue (although I was thinking of retro-fitting it until I found that it had limited finctionality compared to FL ones and FL ones can't be fitted to pre-FL).

Yes it is the only thing about my car that has disappointed me having seen an FL maxidot.

I bought the 7P6035730F BT kit from carsystems.pl to fit in my 08 pre face lift and although I could pair my Galaxy S2 fine and it worked great through the columbus it annoyed me that it wouldn't display on the maxidot (It's an L&K so maxidot was already installed) :wall:

I then bought a 5N0 035 730 B BT module (this needed a GSM antennae fitting to improve the signal) off ebay for £35 and swapped them over (sold my module for £65) and it now displays the phone book and txt mesages on the maxidot.

Now works perfect

Did you need to code it and if so what coding did you use please?

Adam

adamal, no additional coding needed when swapping over the older module in place of the 7P6035730F. Once swapped over turned on ignition and had additional Phone menu in maxidot where you can change the settings (ringtone etc). well pleased with it, adds a lot more functionality.

Thanks, I have the 5K0 unit and can't get it in the maxidot. Think the 5N0 unit you changed to offers slightly more functionality than mine, possibly RSAP? technology.

Yes it has RSAP, I think the only way you can change settings is if it displays through maxidot. It's quite handy being able to read txts, browse the phone book etc on the maxidot

Which is why a retro fit of Maxidot is on the cards for me at some point in the future.

I can confirm that the BT module works just as well with the Columbus as it did with the Bolero, but with the added bonus of voice control.

  • 2 weeks later...

Is any/all of this possible on an '06 Octy vRS which currently has a stream and no maxi dot?

I love the car but I love toys and want to find out if theres any OEM type upgrades before I hack things apart to fit android tablets and standalone amps etc, very messy...

Would be great if there was ( and there may be??? ) a section for retrofit guides along with part codes.
