insurance renewal

Featured Replies

I've spent the last three days trying to be happy with my insurance renewal....

now I have problems, needing specialst insurance to use my car as a drivivng school car, and being a full time EMT..

1: My car is group 27... most instructor cover only goes up to gruop 25 :(

2: most wont cover me being a ful time EMT (emergancy medical technitian) because I need to be covered for commuting, and business use for the ambulance service...

3: my premium was £340 in 2010, £380 in 2011, and its now £443 !! those invreases are unacceptable to me (I know, the market, increased rates, its happening to everyon blar blar.. I dont care. dont want to be ripped off!)

now, I contacted 6 companies to be told they wont do it either because of the high group, or my EMT job...... (was getting frustrated!)

1 company would, but wanted over £1300!!! :o

adrian flux came up trumps (15% briskoda discount!) to get down to £395... but after adding fees, and a staggering 37% interest to pay ove 10 months! they came out almost as expensive as my current insures!

ADVICE: note here, just being quoted a cheaper ammount does NOT mean thats what you will pay over the year... the ammount you will be direct debited x the number of months is what you will ACTUALLY pay... its worth you taking the time to do the maths!

lastley Lloyds Latchford, specialist insurers did me proud with £410 premium, 9% interest on the ten months givin a total payable of £435 for the year (My current renewal was £511.90 for the year all in) we are talkingtotal ammounts now, including fees arrangements legal, interest ect ect....

sooooo I than rang my current insurers back , and explained...... I want to stay with them (underwritten by allianz) as they offer good service, and all the detailed cover I need, business ect included...

she said allianz wont budge, but I'll speak to my manager based on your quotes from lloyds latchford...

I got my fees wiped, legal wiped, and 7.5% interest on the payments... came out at total payable £443.59... (just naote it was total payable £511.90) close enough to the £435 from lloyds latchford, for me to stay with my current insurers.. they efectively knocked off nearly £70.

another lesson, you dont ness have to take what your current insurers offer you as renewal..

Result, I'm happy (Oh and me and my co-drivers are covered for the trip accross europe next month with briskoda free at no extra cost) and if anyone learns from this gruelling 3 day research project to reduce my premium, I'm happy! lol...

Please forgive my ignorance but this briskoda discount for insurance I've not heard about before. Is every member entitled or is there a fee paid to brisky to entitle you to have access to the discounted rate???

just mention "briskoda" and adrian flux will give the discount... Its in the insurance section they are sponsors. They actuall as "are you a member of any car clubs?"

Superb, thank you. My insurance is due in September so hopefully they can save me a few quid. THanks for uIe heads up. :-)

Do they do ADI insurance then? I have an 'i' number with them so any pupils I recommend to them they give a fee to me

My ADI insurance is up for renewal next month so I'll take your advice and shop around :-)

Admiral gave me some ridiculous quote for renewal. Went online to compare the market and admiral came out cheapest at less than half my renewal quote. Seemed odd when it's the same company! Phoned em up and they agreed to match the price saying "oh yeah we sell at a massive discount on those sites to try and get a bigger share of the market". Makes u mad they don't quote u with their best price to start with. Feel sorry for those people not able to stand up and challenge it! Can't fault Admiral for their attitude to my new Milltek exhaust tho, was preparing to be spanked but premium only went up 8 quid for the whole year!

yes milges they have an instructor section, they were good on the phone, knowledgable, but too expensive to pay monthly... in the end I am still with instructorcoverplus... they all but matched the cheapest quote I could find.. lloyd latchford were very competetive... you may get it cheaper, as you don't have the business cover I need for my other job! (plus postcodes ect)

and furbytom, yes, I've heard that story before.... always worth challenging them ;)

I have heard that Some insurers, dont want to cover certain areas. Direct line are one apparently. They hike the price up to disuade people from renuing in my area. When I phoned to Challenge them they said they couldnt beat the price quoted on the Web site. (£50 cheaper than the letter they sent out!)

I usualy post in Insurance threadss and get a round of people saying that mine is the most expensive on the board...

Just had a renewal quote from Direct line of £1300...

I shopped around and now managed to get the absolute cheapest down to £780 from Axa. Which I am happy with!!!

(Just to put this in perspective, I have 15 years no claims... Zero points and I'm 35 with a £400 excess...)

It is discraceful how the prices seem to keep going up and up. And it is frustrating when the same sites quote diffrent prices online or on the phone...

I understand the need for staff and office overheads, but sureley the policies are all handled by the same people wether in an office or on line anyway.... Ggggrrrrrrrr

do you mind me asking what your postcode/area is?

Yes it's amazing what it does to get your renewal, shop around, and then get your current insurer to beat other quotes.

My renewal came through at £790.

Price kept dropping as I gave them quotes from other companies and haggled with them.

Got what I was promised was their absolute best price. Went to another company, and got a slightly better quote still.

Kept haggling with them as they were still £1 more expensive than a competitor, it's not the amount, it's the principal :)

"Oh, well I'm sure we can do a bit better then sir"

£630.

Much better :)

There is more than one club insurer so therefore more than one discount available

just got my new policy documents through, and there is a nice half page (in different languages!) on the certificate of insurance about european cover :)

all sorted for the prague trip!

This prolly is no good for Sharky but Quidco are giving major cashback for car insurance at the moment eg: £50 back on some policies. I've had £75 cashback on bike insurance and car insurance too through them. It's dependant on what companys are offering what and at when, but it's always worth a check. We've saved thousands of pounds on our vehicles over the last 5-6 years or so with Cashback kings (now froggybank), Quidco etc.

My method for renewing both of our car policies:

1/Look at my renewal notice and find out it's gone up from last year by far more than inflation...perhaps 25%

2/Go on the internet and find the cheapest comparable quote...probably even less than last year's premium.

3/Phone my present insurer and inform them I'm not renewing because I've been quoted a lot less elsewhere.

4/They then state that, having re-considered,they can renew at a far lower rate

5/I then terminate the conversation by stating that I still won't be renewing with them because I don't care for their dishonesty.

If we all followed the above procedure it would probably stop their little scam, designed,I think, mainly to fool the elderly and others without internet access.
