MK4 golf armrest & SE leather

Featured Replies

Hello again! Ive had my armrest in my SE for a few months now and its pi55ing me right off. The fact its mega tight between the seats, makes a stupid creaking noise, had to adjust my seats from stopping creaking so much. Anyone have this problem?

Im thinking of chucking this armrest and splash out on another one, had a look on fleabay and found this, looks promising...

If you get it, let us know what its like.

I miss having an armrest, and that looks pretty good.

Same boat, i bought one not long ago, was nasty. Creaked and it didn't fold back like this. I ended up snapping it...

Dont ask why... ;) LOL

The mk4 golf armrest I have did the same. I ended up buying a £10 flocking kit from eBay and flocking the 2 round areas of the sides, and it's been spot on since. Failing that glue some speaker cabinet carpet to the sides!

No problems with mine - I always thought sport seats are basically same frame as VRS but with a different cover??

I did make up a different bracket to attach mine to the console and did not screw it in from the front and back as some have done?

with the SE leather seats there is a blue bead thing that sticks out another couple of millimeters. The armrest rubs on it which makes that leather on plastic creak, even with the rest in upright position. So when I sit in my seat, if I lean to the arm rest I'll hear the creak, really bad when you have a passenger. Maybe the other after market alternatives are a bit slimmer...

with the SE leather seats .... makes that leather on plastic creak,

....and that's where I wasn't paying attention......been welding the wife's Almera up till late on.... sport seats ain't leather :wall:

but it still doesn't seem to catch? Is it the body of the arm rest or the lid?

I'd been weighing up the arm rest you linked to near enough since I'd bought the car but wasn't happy about the way it's attached to the console so finally took the plunge on the HK special.

Does look factory fit even though I say so myself and apart from the fact it took me 4 years to do something I am very pleased with it.

Doesn't really cure your problem though...... had an annoying squeak in mine from time to time took me ages to track it down but I just don't let the wife into the Fabia anymore.............

I'll get my coat.............

It looks like you have more clearance in the middle, stupid SE seats, they are really close together and have a protruding Blue stripe that goes down the side. The armrest just rubs on it all the time, had to move my seat forward a few clicks and adjust the angle just so it would just miss it, go round a right handler your weight shifts to the left inturn moves the seat over *creak creak* :envy:

Problem is the other rests are roughly the same size so they will too rub against the seats. Take the arm rest out and ive got to stupid holes through my console

The armrest from the mark II fabia is ever so slightly slimmer than the golf 4, may solve your issue.

I've spent the last 3 hours adapting one to fit my fabia. It's a bit of a pain in the arse as you've got to cut a fair chunk out of the centre console. When it's finished though it'll be properly bolted to the car (as appose to the self tapper method with the golf 4 one), so sturdy as hell.

the armster is slightly slimmer 120mm IIRC, I like the idea in which its mounted, id imagine it would be quite sturdy.

I'm fed up with removing and cutting trim now to be honest, ive had every panel off this car, still got trim pieces laying around the house. Id rather buy a bolt on jobby and be done with it
