1.9 Tdi Differences

Featured Replies

any body knows what is the difference in extra/different hardware that exits between the 90bhp and 110bhp? Is there a different turbo/intercooler/both ?

What would it take to bring up a 90bhp engine near the region of 130/140 or 150?

My first guess would be, that it will not be a worthwile upgrade even if it possible..

what do you ppl think?

Main differences between the 90 and 110 are a different turbo (VNT on the 110, although in some markets such as USA the turbo is also a VNT on the 90)

Different size injectors/nozzles .184 on 90 .205 on 110 with a different ECU as well.

Other subtle differences like larger oil cooler on the 110, but thats basically it.

IIRC the intercooler is the same for both models.

Certainly possible to get around 130 - 140bhp with the larger injectors and a rechip and its quite easy to do.

a simple chip tune shoould give what you require... I would recommend many places in the uk for a remap but as your in malta a bolt on unit is better....

look up bromleys on the web they will sort you out...

all, thanks alot for your indications...

just one question though... how come people advice against tuning boxes, the something like tunit is ok?... am i mistaken or a tunit is an ok for a diesel?

also does the tunit effect consumption other than due to increased bhp output.. and if yes is this reflected in the onboard computer ?

thanks all again...

I wouldnt advise against a tuning box, its just that they are fairly crude in the way that they work in comparison to a good remap for example.

A tuning box will increase your fuel consumption if you drive hard, as more fuel is being supplied to the engine so it goes without saying.

However the increase in torque and the reduced gearchanges needed etc can actually reduce consumption at motorway speeds for example.

You cant really rely on the trip computer (after fitting a TB) as the fuel consumption is calculated from pre determined values. As the TB fools the ECU into supplying more fuel your car will be using more fuel than the trip computer has calculated. This will not affect the computers readings by a huge amount but you will need to take it into consideration.

Hope this helps!
