Is this where the remaining oil is?

Featured Replies

On my 1.9 tdi I change the oil very regularly and always miss that half litre that sits in filter canister. However when sorting my dog bone mount today I was underneath and I saw a screw cap upside down that looked a lot like the filter top.

If I undo this at change time will it dump the rest of the oil so I get a complete change? It's on bottom of pipe work etc directly under filter housing.

I'm assuming a new o ring will be needed?

Cheers again

When I change my oil and filter the filter housing drains off itself, once plastic Top has been unscrewed and removed.

The nominal amount remaining at the bottom of the housing is easily mopped up by a suitable material which does not shred or leave material on the walls of the housing.

Hope this helps.

thats my normal, but half a litre still lives below the visible level of the filer housing and pipe below, when you look at from underneath, there is a metal what seems to be a little tank, on bottom of this there is a cap much like the filter cap with a hex head in centre for removal.

May just whip it off and see next week.

Thanks for the reply though

Just looked on elsawin, and can see what you are refering to, I think you will need 2 o rings as it appears to secure the oil cooler to the filter housing. Unless the scale of the drawing is massively out, I can't see this lower cup holding very much - could be wrong though.

Cool mate cheers,, may just leave it and use some kind of turkey baster idea or something. Or have numerouse o rings available. Thanks mate.

The picture shows the seals to be more like the size of the seal on a petrol oil filter rather than a conventional o ring. What about sucking it out with an old basting syringe from a kitchen type place?.
