COLUMBAS NOT PICKING UP SATALLITES

Featured Replies

Can anyone help.

I have just installed the Columbus Sat Nav into my Octavia II.

Everything is fine except that at the most it only picks up 3 satallites so it takes a long time for the map to find you location.

Is this normal or is it because of the location of the satallite receiver??

Where have you placed the GPS Antenna? The easier access it has to the sky, the faster it locks and to greater number of Satellites. One of the best places to place the Antenna is on the Dash Board or right under the front AC Vents.

Trhe GPS Antenna is placed in a gap above the unit behind the vents.

put it between the bottom of the windscreen and dash.

yes, it needs to be higher. Remove the top dashboard box and look inside, you'll see a metal cross member. Place the receiver on top of this and you should see 8 satellites with ease. The metal crossmember is not magnetic, so you'll need to use something to hold it in place like velcro for example.
