grp bonnet

Featured Replies

Afternoon all. As some of you may know I've been pretty drastic with reducing the weight of my car. Having stripped everything possible I'm now looking at the outside.

I've been in touch with a local place about getting a glass reinforced plastic bonnet made. Similar in strength and weight to carbon fibre but at 1/4 of the price.

We have 2 options.

1. A full grp reproduction bonnet. Which will be identical to the standard one except for the weight.

2. A grp skin. More for track day and race car applications and evenlighter than above. Also half the price. Downside being it will need to be secured with bonnet pins.

So price for option 1 as follows

1. 1800

2. 1050

3. 800

4. 675

5. 600

6. 550

7. 515

8. 485

9. 465

10. 450

Option 2 would be basically half of the above figures but you would need to buy bonnet pins aswell but they're not that expensive.

Any questions??

They could also do wings with biger arches aswell

I take it those prices are for a group buy? Are there any safety implications, especially for pedestrian impact? Any idea how much weight will be saved?

Have you tried the Czech Republic?

Companies there already make them (although they may have vents in them) for Fabia autocross and cup cars I think.

I know you can get all the panels for am autocross or cup mkI Fabia, and there is a mkII shape being made now...

You should be looking at going from around 20kg to around 5kg.

while you are at it why don't you go for the rs+ concept bonnet? so nice :)

I like that

Also there are these Slovakians I've found online - not sure of the quality and unfortunately the bodykit pictured is an evo1 but you could always drop them a line.

Would love one for the Combi!!!

Looks like a good deal if enough people went in for it.

Evo 1? How do you know what version your car is to fit the rally kits?

Evo1 are based on the prefacelift. Evo2 are based on the facelift.

Would be intrested if i wasnt so skint, think my front end needs a respray due to being covered in stone dents along with the bonnet so this would be a great substitue

Both options sounds good, it's just depending on the shipping-cost to Sweden :p!
