My Superb after owning it one week

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have been a member of Briskoda for some years having owned a couple of Fabia Estates in the past. I then moved to an X-type Estate which I really liked but with 172,000 on the clock I sold it to my son whose BMW diesel's engine had just been written off with the Swirl-flap problem.

So I looked at a few Superb's mainly because the reviews have been so good and with a budget of £12,000 a secondhand one offers so much specification compared to other makes. I would have liked the Estate but beyond my budget.

I settled for a June 2009 2.0 Tdi 170 DSG Elegance with 41,000 on the clock. Bought from TG2A (Too Good To Auction) Southampton part of the Snows Group, who are not a Skoda dealer. It has had two Skoda main dealer services, but came without a Skoda Warranty, just three months legal minimum. It was taken in part-exchange from the second owner against a new Volvo. This guy owned it only for a couple of days, as he couldn't get on with the driver's seat....

I have done about 140 miles in it a mixture of dual carriageway and town driving. 50mpg at 70 which compares to 42 with the Jaguar 2.0l diesel, which unlike the Superb was a manual. 44ish on shorter trips once the engine has warmed up.

Basically the car wows me, but I'm not used to modern cars. The rear legroom is astonishing, I'm 6'3" and my three boys not far off, so plenty of room. The performance even with being automatic is great 8.8 to 62 equals the now defunct BMW.

The seating does need getting used to, and I have viewed the other threads on this. I'm still experimenting. The only other issue is the limited phone connection with the 2009 Bluetooth box and my iphone 3gs. Having tried to track down a cheap replacement box, I went down the cheapo route and installed the rsap upgrade for my iphone. This took about 30 minutes, and you can try the software for free, and it worked immediately once I realised not to put spaces in between the password codes! I have checked a few times and the Bluetooth now connects everytime, takes over my iphone and all the phone lists and caller information is transferred to the Columbus. So issue solved. I will have to upgrade to the commercial version for $19.99 but much cheaper than the lowest price box I could find @ £200.

So all in all I'm very happy after one week.

My wife has just bought a Fabia Sport from our local Skoda dealer, and he said I could take out a Skoda extended warranty on the Superb for £238 for the year. Seems like a bargain to me.
