Now Lowered My Estate 55mm/40mm

Featured Replies

Lowered my Ambiente estate 55mm front 40mm rear on H&R Cup spring and shock kit. I've also fitted 24mm Whiteline front and rear anti-roll bars. The ride is more comfortable than stock IMO and the road holding is brilliant so far. (Only had it lowered a day!)

What do you think?

Apologies as the car is dirty and the wheels could do with a refurb....

Google is your friend - it's a Golf mk5 2.0TDI front suspension strut

Let's not get into a suspension debate :)

Photos looks good. Doing suspension and ARBs all at once should make quite a difference! Bet it feels like a different car B)

If anyone is seriously looking at a B12, I'm currently talking to a couple of vendors with regards to the supply of these and the possibility of further discounts should 5 or more people want it.

I think there Group buy thread is still open too, so if you are post up there or PM me.

Problem is my list is getting longer for the mods (EGR delete, suspension bushes, B12, 312mm discs, WALK, Rear ARB etc etc) - it is sorting what gets done first and also minimising the number of re-alignments I need every time I fiddle with the suspension!

Oh, and I need another glow plug and might as well replace the injector loom whilst in there. And a parking sensor that has been a bit intermittent has finally given up the ghost.

At this rate I will have a 'new' car with 160K on the clock!

Finally got chance to have a quick wash and wax. Car handles brilliantly, missus tells me to slow down, she doesn't like fast cornering. Didn't like it it my 197 either, was fun though, especially over 5500rpm! Had a play round bends last night with a biker, don't think he expected an estate to handle well, especially a slow one, but respected the cornering ability of my car and road safety by not being a nob, a first for a biker round here! Him and his mate seemed quite surprised an estate goes round bends well! HEHE! Looking good I think, but N/S of car seems to be sitting lower, only thing not replaced was drop links and rear top mounts.... Shall get the garage to make sure everything is seated correctly etc, They did a good deal on fitting suspension and ARBs though, all setup and re-tracked, GMS in Prestatyn, North Wales.

At this rate you'll find an excuse never to do any mods. Just do it mate, whatever you can afford. It's always worth it, if it makes a mundane drive fun then.... IF you can afford whatever suspension/ARB mods all at once then do it. It ain't a crime just to lower your car, and then re-align once the ARBs are done. In retrospect I'd have replaced drop links at the same time. Got a tiny knock coming off speed bumps/dropped curbs, but no rattle or knock otherwise. I think it's just the a crap drop link or just 'cos the ARBs are keeping a wheel 'up' at that point....

Sorry, it is madness to lower the car and no have it re-aligned. a 40mm drop will have a significant impact on camber and toe, and the kind of mileage I do that will result in a set of new tyres sooner rather than later, never mind the affect on the handling and therefore safety of myself and others.

Just saying that you could run it for a few weeks and then get it done was my point. :)

Sports suspension plus a full load of camping equipment plus two push bikes on a detachable tow hitch plus 50 bottles of wine made for a very low car on our recent holidays.

Hence why I went for the 40mm rears so it's all good when I go camping! :D
