vRS losing coolant?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My Wife's vRS is losing coolant somewhat randomly ...I topped it up from minimum to maximum a few weeks ago - the first time in a long time. Last night the coolant level light beeped and it is back on the minimum.

It's odd I've sometimes topped it up and done several thousand miles with not needing to add any coolant which is how it should be so forget about it ... then in the space of a week I land up topping it up a couple of times although not from min to max.

So I'm going to take a proper look at this tonight. Any ideas / typical faults on the PD130 to look for?

It's a 2006 with 110k miles and runs like a dream.

Any help appreciated.

Not going to be much help, but mine also does this. I can go for weeks without needing to top it up, but if I push the car a little harder it goes through coolant like nobody's business!

Most posts on here seem to point to the head gasket being at fault, although going to get mine booked in at the garage and checked to confirm this sometime this month I think

Leaking radiator - it'll be perished on the bottom corners.

Remove the engine undertray for a few days and watch for pools of water when the car has been sitting after getting hot.

Driving the car harder makes no difference to the coolant loss from what I have seen... I'm also suspecting the radiator so will be having a look tonight for any coolant loss in the area that has dried out ... praying it's not the head gasket! :(

It doesn't get hot which would be a sign I imagine?

Another point to check that mine and others have leaked from was the metal coolant pipes that go inside the car to the heater matrix.

Similar thing on mine, getting a system pressure test some tomorrow to see if it's leaking, fingers crossed for a split pipe or something.
