Insurance time - Any tips ?

Featured Replies

The alarm and immobiliser on a Fabia MK1 vRS is a Thatcham cat 1 if I am not mistaken?!

I asked Skoda as various comparison sites gave strange ideas. My 04 TDI has a Thatcham 2 immobiliser. Strangely enough, the old Felicia had either a Thatcham 1 or 2 depending on year.

My insurance is not bad at all, ime 21 wih 3 points, 3 years no claims and mine is 650 quid fully comp.

No I'm not a student work full time have never done owt out of term etc and not really just a map but even Soo I struggled Soo much with my insurance Bieng in Bradford I say everyone here change your postcode to a Bradford postcode and see how much your insurance changes!! It's a pain in the ass!!!! I can't afford it I have my own house to pay for a wedding and a dog just dont get it haha :/

I am 24, 7 years protected ncb. I had a Leon cupra r before which was insurance group 17 then got my fabia vrs which is obviously 9. What shocked me was how my provider at the time (elephant) could only reduce my annual bill by £60, down to £640!!! Then a quick 5 min call to brentacre.... £475 with all mods declared!!!

Renewals are a joke!!!

Insurace is a joke full stop!!! It's Daylight robbery!!

Ok so I've been messing with insurance this morning managed to get mine down to 1060!! Happy with that but also messing around with dream cars like u do.... So I got onto one of my all times faves a 1991 ford Sierra cosworth 4x4 saph any ways thinking yeah what ever blah blah..... So yeah got a shock £1600!!!!! Yess please!!!!

I hope this is on-topic, since we are talking about insurance

I've always found the nightmare of insurance been a good reason I've not wanted to get into mods

But now I'm increasingly getting into wanting to do some more obvious tweaks. I've already got spiders but they were declared with Admiral - they were great and weren't that bothered about them as they are OEM

But I'm now interested in:

- moderate lowering (make car look more standard rather than fully dropped/riding arches, lowering springs rather than coilovers) normally about 2" - 4" ?

- plastidip the front grille

- how do they stand in regard to insurance ?

I know some companies like morethan will throw book at you if they see anything changed, but as I see it these are only slight changes and wouldn't want to do this if it is going to make insuring the car a misery.

I may eventually look to a reversable revo or shark remap which of course would be an obvious one, but wonder how sensible insurance would be about more modest upgrades.

Any modifications at all will make on-line quotes difficult. I declare parking sensors on mine - and at gocompare.com that means some insurers will not quote.

Just to update things and close the topic really

Phoned up brentacre spoke to a lad called Jonathan, excellent service.

Managed to get a quote CHEAPER than my renewal and I am able to modify visually, lowering, alloys, roll bars, exhaust etc etc

That is with only 1 years no claims, 2 accidents and am under 25

Really don’t know how they have managed it to be honest, but I’m happy :)

So if you would like a competitive quote give them a bell and see what happens, very glad I did.
