EBC Discs and Pads - Any Opinions ?

Featured Replies

Hi

Anyone have or had EBC Turbo groove Discs or Green stuff pads ? I just want to change front discsc and pads in my VRS and can't decide is it good choice.

Personally I wouldn't bother and just order a set of pajid discs and pads from eurocarparts.

No idea on the discs, but I've noticed NO improvements with green stuff pads with regards to braking (on my old Volvo, that is), but they definitely wear quicker than standard pads. Waste of money IMO.

This.

I got a full set of discs and pads for about £150 I think. Decent job.

Wore out the groves of a set of ebc drilled and groved discs on my old car using cheap pads that had 80% left lol

I use EBC stuff on all our cars, and have done for years. From our AX and my Matro to my dads Scoobie.

My dad has tried their TGD discs before, he liked them, but they were noisy under medium to hard braking. These were the old design (10 grooves), the newer ones have less grooves, so not as noisy.

Both him and I, have now got the Ultimax slotted ones and are silent with the advantages of grooved ones. I have Greenstuff all round on my Furby and have no problems stopping. The pads produce less dust, are kinder to discs and suit our driving style.

Ive just taken off my cross drilled vented evc with green stuff pads and replaced with standard rear and mintex 40 groves on the front stops loads better than b4

Whenever I've driven a car with EBC brakes, I've nearly crashed due to not being able to stop, particularly the green stuff, they're just plain dangerous.

Thank you for everyone for opinion. I've just checked brakes in eurocarparts and probably will buy Discs PAGID and pads ATE anyone have or had this set ?

The Pagid discs and pads are the same as OEM and are pretty good IMO. No idea about ATE stuff though.

Id get the paged pads aswell, fitted discs and pads to mine and as a package they are about perfect for road use

These of course will have the same performance of OEM parts. I believe the OEM pads could actually be made by Pagid.

If you went with the EBC stuff, or other performance parts (Mintex M1144 pads) you would gain more performance (and stopping power) over these OEM parts. We have had some OEM Skoda rear pads start to De-laminate on my mothers Fabia.

The advantages of the grooved and dimpled discs are their ability to clear water, muck dust, gasses and aid cooling which helps to prevent brake fade. EBC also say the discs should wear flat and evenly. However some people point out that plain discs have slightly more surface area in contact with the disc so should be better. For day to day use then plain ones will be perfectly fine.

The OEM stuff is Pagid. This has been discussed ad nauseum all over the forum.

I honestly don't know how anybody can rave about greenstuff pads though. I'd tried them on my (pretty gutless) V40, they cost nearly £100 for the set, wore out in about 1/3 of the time that my usual pads did, and didn't perform anywhere near as well as the pads that came FREE with my Motaquip discs. (Sadly, Motaquip parts do not seem to be anywhere near the same standard nowadays)

Might not be everybodys experience, granted, but they just didn't even compare to cheap giveaways that I found. (Although they were awfully good for the money back then...)

I was surprised that the grooves on the discs wore out so quickly, ended up putting 20 year old oem discs back on and it felt no different apart from they were soo much quieter. I would of expected cheapo pads to ware out first lol

Avoid red stuff like the plague I've seen two sets crack up and part from the back plate not good!

Don't know if they do them for the octavia but I'm using Froddo ds2500 in my opinion far superior to ebc!!!

I would suggest the opposite. Avoid DS2500, they don't work that well when cold (great when hot though) and do not conform to Regulation 90 standards (also not 'E' marked), so technically are not road legal. They do state on the box "Disc pads for Race use only". Have a read of this thread: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/155594-ds2500-track-day-only-pads/

My father has used Redstuff on his Impreza for many years with no problems.

I have Green Stuff pads with Brembo standard disks on the front and OEM disks on the back and am very happy with them. I also have Green Stuff pads on the 968 and have no problems there either.

Perhaps I am just not trying hard enough?
