I'm looking to get shut after 1 1/2 years...

All the more used bargains becoming available on the market in the next year or so..

It will be interesting in another 3 years time to see how people have to search out good and unmolested vRS's,

if they become the Bargain hot hatch to buy.

My thinking is that one that has required a replacement engine or rebuild within the first 3 years is the one to go for,

or could be the safer purchase. Many other considerations,

like trying to check out the vehicles registration number on car enthusiasts forums,

Meet pictures & drag days etc.. See if you really want that one or not.

Skoda/VAG need to Make the Engine Warranty run from the time of Re-build or replacement for 3 years from that date tho.

So only yours will be worth buying and anyone who has one who attends meets or track days isn't worth anything? Yeah....

I see where you are coming from George, but I personally wouldn't entertain the idea of buying a used car that had required the engine to be replaced or rebuilt unless it was very cheap indeed - but each to their own and I'm sure most of these cars will be fine.

As for scouring the internet to find evidence of mods or trackdays etc that sounds like alot of work/hassle.

When I bought my Focus ST the helpful Ford dealer gave me a printout of all work/servicing and any warranty claims that had been made on the vehicle in the network throughout its lifetime. This was quite reassuring. I'm not sure if skoda dealers would be able/willing to provide this or not?! (probably not if the car had been in and out of the workshop all its life for engine work and excessive oil issues etc :wonder: )

No, you would not buy mine. You cant anyway, they get bought as keepers.

Much Cheapness or 'Much Value, plenty around still now.

Its going to events, & getting used and abused, and going to keep one standard.

It me thats not buying ones that were abused too much before buying or the history is not known..

Or the price will need to be right if it is suspect..

They are only cars, fix them. Its not like they are expensive to fix, or that the scrap yards and breakers will not have parts.

Building an engine is what cars have always needed if tuning, & with a vRS, its the Turbo & the Supercharger that are different.

Not High Tech or even difficult to work on compared to many engines.

Getting a good one that is standard is a good start.

From there on its just knowing people that know their stuff rather than some of the Tuners around that are

currently messing things up rather than improving reliabilty & tuning, not just doing a bit of squeezing out what is already available & making them unreliable..

A cars history or background is no bother to check. If you do not likey, dont buyee.

Or like everything else you take a chance.

Are you planning to modify your vRS George?

I think you might struggle somewhat to find a vRS superchager / turbo or DSG-7 box in a scrap yard :giggle:

I'm sure most people would think of the 1.4TSI twincharger 180 with the DSG as a 'high-tech' setup to be fair....

Furbytom,

I already have mine stripped out and roll cage installed. Done 2 Hill climbs, before going to any effort with it.

It is at about the standard weight still now with it stripped. waiting for the replacement for the glass.

Like every vehicle you need an engine or box for,

its easier to get with performance cars.

They get crashed and stolen and sold as such.

You look for Front or rear end damage depending what you need,

or Stolen recovered, part stripped etc.

Easier if you are in the Car repair business, or were.

An engine is an engine, and its usual to blue print an engine & get its best & reliability, before just bolting on bits.

Really not necessary for my needs.

Traction and handling and braking is all thats needed. 80 or even 120 is the same speed what ever the vehicle really.

Just best if they dont break unless they are being crashed & then its good if you can walk away from them.

Thats how you get to be an Older Boy Racer.

Helps if your mates are mechanics & do the stuff you want day in & out.

george

George -you have a pm.

Get some pics of your stripped and caged Fabia up on here if you haven't already -sounds ace.

give it a few years and they will start appearing in scrappys. rear ends or roll overs where the bodys fooked but engine might be a runner.

there was a vrs linked here that was wrecked and listed for parts. the rear and drivers side were ok. the rest.... not so much haha!

Remember stu that a revo sps will only set a revo stock map, not the original stock map.

If the fault lies in the map, chances are it will still be present in the 'stock' map's code.

  • Author

I asked about that and the revo stock is the exact same as standered stock

Think the problem has always been there and the map just brought it out worse, since having the new pump fitted the pops from the exhaust dont sound like its overfuelling as much
