Skoda MIDI system..

Featured Replies

here's my problem... I have the same 120gig music file on the HD in my fabia, as I have on my PC... now on the PC it seems there is much more veriaty played on "random" than there is in the car (Played by i-tunes media player) ...

is this because there is a different way of doing random by the MDI system (I know computers cant actually be random) OR is it because I-tunes will play anything (or convert files it cant play) and the MDI can only play certain files i.e .mpg and not .wvm ....

if the latter is so (which I suspect) what do I need to convert my music file to to play everything on MDI?

also... will it enter folders to play on random, or will it just play singular files....

Thanks!

Shark.

Columbus will only play MP3 files which explains much of your problems.

It will play files randomly from within the current folder (including sub-folders) when you select 'Mix'.

Thanks, I'll try converting the whole lot to mp3, and see if that works better :)

well its gonna be a pita to do it, and was a pita getting a decent free program for it too! but 120 gig of music of all types or formats is being converted into a copied file of just mp3's to go on the harddrive tomorow! it may take all night! lol...

lol.. its using a constant 30 % of my CPU and 3.2 gig of memory to be doing this! :o

(I have an I5 and 8 gig of memory in resources :) )

Let in run. I know the Columbus only likes MP3's!

ok, its been running all night... 7237 of 23,000 PMSL! lol.. I'll leave it till its done ;)

right, 144 gig converted, now to load onto the goflex HD :)

I'll try it out tomorow!

I praise your motivation and persistence (but don't envy your electricity bill)...

lol... all loaded up... going in the car in the morning...

I likethe fact that all the songs I have heard and liked, and some new stuff from friends who's tastes are similar and whos computers I've ripped, are right there in the car and it will randomly give me something....

I swear it has "moods" sometimes it will be gentle, a bit of the cranberries, some bangles, some old queen or moody blues...

then it may have a time for mentleness and hard driving, walk by Panterra, master of puppets metallica, no one knows - queens of the stone age....

the onto obscure macc lads, or wierd al yankovic....

the odd one hit wonder, men without hats!

and then something new I've not heard.... suddenly discovered porcuopine tree,,,,

BRILLIANT!

worth the effort, and thanks for your input (assuming it works)

my free program was good, made everything listed as single tracks too, so should be as close to random as I can get...

only took 2 days ;) and windows 7 managed not to break during that time :)

shark.

I had the same issue and it's well worth the wait of converting them all to MP3.

I used this software: http://www.freac.org/

Thought it was worth posting as there is so much crap out there when you search for audio conversion software

goodness me! it took until today for the MDI to load up all my 30,000 + tracks! been listening to the radio! lol..

all loaded up and working now, and its definatley playing everything...

thanks for the advice :) mp3 all the way!

Good stuff.

Patience is a virtue (apparently) or an indication that your music collection is too big!

someone on the fabia forum mentionded 300 traks max... probably because of the delay if you go bigger! lol..

I can confirm, once the index is loaded, everything is instant :)
