Dented Rim

Featured Replies

I ran into a monster pothole yesterday - the kind that lurks on perfect roads ready to kill the unsuspecting car - I managed to swerve a little so it didn't cause as much damage as it could have.

It took a bite out of the rim - there's a slight bulge where the dent is but apart from that the wheel rim is okay - the tyre is only a couple of months old if that so the last thing I want is to have to fork out for a new tyre.

The car is running on the spare so I showed it to my mechanic today he reckons it's fixable but he may have to put an inner tube in there with it.

I hate inner tubes - last time I had one fitted on a slow puncture I got a blow out at 40mph on a previous car.

Opinions?

I think you're better off picking up a second hand rim for that, or if it can be put back into shape, then carefully checking the tyre for sidewall damage.

Its a steel wheel so loads at the breakers. I personally wouldnt straighten it, if you cant find a breaker locally try http://www.skospares.com/ no need to bother with the enquiry form, just ring them, very helpful
