Stereos with bluetooth

Featured Replies

I'm looking to replace my MFD unit with a single DIN aftermarket head unit, ideally I want a hands free option, so the question is are HU's with integral bluetooth any good for the job or would I be better getting a separate hands free such as a parrot?

I was thinking along the lines of this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006ZS3SPK/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0DFQ11TFJCZ9NJK45SG2&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=317828027&pf_rd_i=468294

If they come with or have the option of an external mic then yes they can be good.

We had a JVC in the old pug that just had an internal mic and it was rubbish. The sound quality of calls was also poor.

On the flip side I know you can get some very good stereos with built in bluetooth.

Parrot Asteroid for example:

Also it might also be worthwhile getting a seperate system.

I picked up an IO Play bluetooth system from ebay for about £35 and it's been great!

I put a Kenwood in one of my cars. The bluetooth was expensive but works well. It has the advantage of doing audio streaming in stereo over BT from my Nokia phone. The one I have also supports iPod via USB (not tested) and DAB built in.

Only downside, the user inerface of most aftermarket units has been designed by five year olds on speed! So try before you buy if you want something that doesn't have irritating quirks like an inability to cancel traffic announcements without switching them off completely, and needing a long press on a tiny button to switch them back on.

I got one this morning, ended up going for a Pioneer that has built in Parrot bluetooth and an external mic, just need to get it all fitted and looking flush now.
