1.4 tsi. Hydraulic sound each time accelarator is released.

Featured Replies

Hi all. Hope someone can help. Not noticed it before, but could be all quite normal. Been out and about the last couple of days on some really rural roads with windows open- so very different to most of the previous 9k miles covered in the car. Can hear a very noticeable 'hydraulic' sound each time I lift off the gas pedal -

Anyone else?

Is it supposed to do this?

Thanks all.

Don't know much about engines but it could just be the dump valve for the turbo!

Possibly.

Deepends on the noise.

You should be able to tell if it's the turbo as it will be a little kind of whoosy/hollow kind of noise. Hard to describe really.

Try revving the engine while stopped out of gear and see what you can hear.

Phil

Does sound like turbo blow off valve. Factory items don't tend to be too vocal, if you're driving down rural roads with stone walls either side and you're on and off the gas because of the nature of most rural roads then you're probably going to notice it a lot more. If it's not causing any bother I'd just get it checked over on your next service.

Thanks Phil/Durst - you have convinced me it is more than likely nothing- but will get it checked when it goes in for a service.

Almost certainly the turbo releasing pressure to atmosphere. Is it more of a little 'pssst'?

Yep- a little pssst is about right- imagine the noise a bus door makes when it opens/closes- but very brief....think we are talking about the same thing.

That is the turbo then - don't worry about it, perfectly normal.

All normal :D
