re-map

Featured Replies

ok lads iam about to take delivery on sept 1st a new octavia vrs cr170,now iam going to remap it once its done 1500 miles but would really like to no who to use to remap it and why i should use them,my last octavia was remapped by revo and had no problems, also revo seem to get the most bhp and torque results so ive heard, now iam not wanting this to turn into a tuner wars just would like some info,i also like the idea of superchips bluefin as this doesnt need any messing around with the ecu's sercurity bolts, come on lads tell me what you think.

Personally i would leave it till after your warranty.

...and breathe!

Personally i would leave it till after your warranty.

Why? There's a risk a remap could cause a problem yes, but irrespective of whether you are in or out of warranty then you'll need to pay up to get it fixed. I've never understood the wait till it's out of warranty approach to remapping; if you want it done just do it but understand the risks. I got mine done the day after I picked it up from the dealer. I have my current tsi remapped by Revo and I had my CR remapped by SP Tuning near Hinckley.

If you've used Revo before why not use them again. Personally its mot about the amount of power but delivery if it

If your in warranty without a remap emmm i think you pay nothing assuming it isnt a wear and tear item.

like i said ive had revo and the car was really quick, never had any problems with it while i had it either, got it new and sold it when it was a year old, like i said how do other re-maps compare to revo's as iam looking for some info here, also it doesnt bother me about affecting the warrenty and my main dealer offers a revo service so think it should be ok with them

If the fault isn't attributable to the remap then it should be covered by warranty, if it is attributable to the remap then you need to pay out.

The latter is true whether you are in or out of warranty.

I've just had my nearly new vRS CR170 mapped by revo and am very pleased with the results. The ECU had to be removed to unlock it before mapping via the OBD port but it didn't bother me too much even though the car is still under warranty.

I believe that the Superchips Bluefin can't be used without unlocking the ECU first too.

What were the results?

Had mine done 6 months before warranty was over with as I was a bit of a chicken, but also wanted to make sure I was completely bored with the (lack of) power before I increased it. Made me appreciate it much more. :)

But looking at the fact the EU is "considering" making modifying cars illegal.......

You will get different answers on here depening on who has used what of course. There is also an opinion that some remaps are better when left at Stage 1 (i.e., just the chip remap) and other brands more suitable for stage 2 and 3's (new exhausts etc.).

I've got a Bluefin on mine (petrol rather than diesal though) and it's great, but then I was only really ever going to do the easy stage 1 (and the bluefin is etremely easy to use). Revo seems to have a better rep for Stage 2 up. Then there are ones like Shark who are very popular on here (and I would have used had I not got a very good deal on the Bluefin at the time, and lived a bit nearer).

I don't personally think the warranty is a big issue, a lot of dealers are ok with remaps and having one you can re-do yourself (like a Bluefin) is useful if ever it gets wiped with a filmware upgrade at the dealers on a regular service. But the you do need to be wary about are the insurance issues (assuming you are honest), given a lot of insurers will even bump a premium for having a sticker on your bodywork (never understood that myself, other than pure greed on their part), although some are ok with stage 1 remaps and don't add anything to the premium costs. And then there is the issue that newer VAG chips are much harder to remap unless physically opened up (which makes an actual vist to a longstanding remapper with a good rep far more likely and important). And of course once you have done this then the warranty and insurance issues become a little harder to work around.

All that said, I wouldn't want to go back to a 'standard' vRS minus remap!
