Squeeky drivers window?

Featured Replies

When it's a reasonably warm day, above 17 degrees. My drivers window seems to squeek when going up or down.

55 plate car so panel rivetted on. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas what i could be, it's so annoying!

Welcome to the club Jonnyy!

Both sides on mine do it, all to do with the rubber and the heat - sod all can be done as far as I am aware :wall:

I bought silicone lubricant from halfords, but you can use WD40 to lubricate the vertical channels.

Nightmare! Feel like a right plonk when you wind down window with people near you

Ah yeah never thought about that, will give that a try one day this week

Cheers guys

Mine does it too! Will the WD40 smear the windows?

WD will do unless you are very careful when applying it. Won't last long either.

Silicone lubricant is better.

Or as a quick temporary fix, try a light smear of vaseline in the channel (so tempted to type crack)

In the channel against the window, I thought that the squeak was the rubber pressing against the window

Ah, my mistake. Not had this so was only guessing.

If it's the rubber wiper strip at the bottom of the window then you'll probably get smearing from any normal lubricant.

You could give this a try...

There have been a few threads from others having a similar problems but AFAIK no absolute cure.

Good luck Dan

Thanks mate, I'll give it a go and post back with hopefully a cure :)

Only a thought , but it could be too clean glass. I'd be tempted to try a furniture polish with silicon in it.
