My Octavia II garden.

Featured Replies

Evening all.

I decided to give the car the full works today. Whilst I was at it, I decided to partially remove the front wheel arch liners and clean out the water drain channels.

Forgive the quality of the photo's, but as you can see, it doesn't look like they have ever been cleaned out before. So much so, I could have planted a row of spuds in the amount of soil that I removed!

I'm not so sure as to the consequences of not cleaning these out on a regular basis, however my previous car, a VW Passat had problems with water ingress due to a blocked drain hole.

Anyway, they're fully cleaned out now and draining water as they should

Cheers

FP

Yep, certainly a good hiding place for it behind there! I try to do that annually and at least stop longer-term build up.

I really should check mine at the weekend after seeing those pic's. I did clean out my mk1 a couple of years ago & that was worse than that. Job for the weekend.

Definitely a worthwhile task - if not only for weight saving reasons! :D

Another job to add to the list!

Sorry lads!

It looks like I've created a monster here! Apologies for the extra jobs this weekend. However, if it's any consolation, I'm on nights for the next four nights.

Enjoy & I look forward to the photos of your 'gardening'.

Have a good weekend.

FP.

Fitted my front mudflaps this morning and checked mine too, lots of leaves and mud in there.

Top tip cheers will check mine but will leave it until car is older to make it worth my while. I hadn't even thought of doing it ever, thanks.

Front wheelarch liners, yes, I did mine earlier this year, but you should have a look at the rears also.

The muck and debris collects at the front part of these, at the rear ends of the sills if you follow me. If anyone intends to keep their cars long term, these are the danger areas for corrosion. It's not only debris, in the winter salt also lodges at these points.

I treated the areas with a mix of waste oil and dinitrol which should give long term protection. I also removed the bungs to the sills when the liners were out and gave the sill cavities the same treatment. They were nice and clean anyway but on my Citroen Xsara(246000 miles from new) I didn't realise it was rusting inside the sills until too late. The rest of the car is good as it got oil sprayed every year.

I've a service due on the Skoda, compressor, waste oil, and old clothes ready as well!
