Possible new purchase tomorrow, some quick advice needed please!

Featured Replies

I might be going to purchase a new VRS tomorrow! I'm now 99% sure on getting a new one as opposed to a used I've talked about here before.

I've been in touch with my local dealer who tells me there is a Rallye Green being built in the next 2 weeks for delivery end of September, it's just a standard car, no options at all.

I would have liked cruise, climate and parking sensors, can any or all of these be retro fitted without too much trouble?

The car is £14660 OTR and will be on a 12 plate, I'm guessing this is the best price I can get or could it be bettered?

Thanks for any help, right, I'm off out on a driving lesson, I look forward to a bit of reading your replies later :-)

Cheers

Hi MilgeS

I would imagine that these can be retro fitted I've Heard of cruise and parking sensors being retro fitted but not climate control.

Cruise control would be a dash out job I would imagine and personally I wouldn't bother as that can cause rattles after it's been removed and put back in. I think revo do a retrofit cruise but I could be wrong.

I have the rally green and I really like the colour seems to stay clean and easy to maintain. Also have black roof and dark chrome alloys. As for the options at the time the car wasn't vat free and I decided I could live without the cruise (had it on previous) as I was getting DSG instead. Also the air con unit isn't the prettiest unit and the climate does look better but kept that standard (don't miss my climate from previous car) and I was gonna have parking sensors but changed my mind at last minute.

Hope this helps

as kermit said, with the addition that places like unit 18 (site sponser) can retrofit cruise with no problems at all.

mine is green with white wheels ;) wheels are easy to change or paint, I went for green and white as its the skoda rally colours :)

luckily mine is an old one, so had climatronic (temp sensor that keeps temp stable) this was deleted on later models for some reason, maybe to sell more of the climate control option!

make sure you get an MDI lead, I'd go for USB connection, and buy a seagate goflex hard drive for music. (needs to be formatted FAT32, and tracks need to be mp3)

price seems good, i'd expect to pay £15k so 14660 isn't bad.... are he-man still doing free duals for a new car? think so.... they dont make them for the auto, just the standard fabia kit, throw away the clutch stuff, and make a bigger bracket for the brake pedal... he-man dude should be able to sort it :)

enjoy your new car ;)

had a pupil today , retired, drivivng for years, wanted education in modern auto's, had great fun with him , eager to learn, mastered most of the things he needed to learn, mastered the hill holder, moving off from slow to fast , kickdown, manual control of paddles (he will need more practice with that!,) best thing he did was to keep his left hand and left leg still by the end ;) lol...

he's off to buy a vauxhall! I did some research for him (check the thread in general car chat) vauxhalls (GM's) new 6 speeder is a compact twin clutch job, that looks at least as good as DSG....

do give us a review when you are up and running :)

Hey, thanks for that :-)

I think I can live without the extras too actually, I have a Monte with climate and cruise, never had it before so was concerned I might miss it, I do like the climate setup though, looks nice.

I only thought of parking sensors as my current auto has them, also something I've not had on previous cars.

Really appreciate your comments, cheers :-)

If the car's not built yet could you add some options to the order at this stage?

Thanks for the cruise fitting idea, I'll keep that in mind for future, I'm going to be a bit broke going for the new car but the extra couple of grand for new over used is a no brainer for me.

Re climatronic, bit gutted it's not standard but I think you are spot on with the extra selling option :-(

Re the MDI, if I had a hard drive is this controllable through the multi function steering wheel? On my Monte I just have the 3.5mm jack to go in my phone.

Duals are fitted for free, another reason for going new otherwise £400 on the used car, I'll have to forewarn them of fitting and give them your info from a previous post or pm on how you had yours adapted. My local dealer is like going back in time so could be quite a challenge, don't suppose you could email me any pics of your adaptions to assist them could you please?

Overall I'm stupidly excited, just need to confirm the sale of my Pug tomorrow or Saturday and then wing my way over to the dealer, I'm never going to get any sleep until I have the keys to that car in my hand!!

Glad your pupil liked the car, I'll have a look at the Vauxhall box details sometime, I don't think I could own one though, dunno why, probably why some people couldn't own a Skoda I guess, the stigma attached.

Thanks again for all your help and advice, muchly appreciated :-)

I suppose it won't hurt to ask, thanks for the idea, I suppose it would depend on how far along in the build process it is?

yes the HD is controlled though the steering wheel, and you can set random ect from the head unit...... I have 144 gig and 30,000 + songs on there :)

the duals are the same as the manual from the passenger side until the brake pedal... its thicker... I'll post a pic up tomorow :)

Ive heard of an octavia having parking senors fittwd by dealers in workshop before dont know if you can get this done

If it's registered on sept 1 or after surely it should be a 62 plate?

If it's a 12 plate then it's pre-reg so not worth the price, which is list + metallic taking account of the vat free offer,to accept a pre-reg 12 in a spec you don't really want it needs to be cheaper.

I believe delivery times are quite short at the moment,I'm seeing the dealer to-morrow about my order so I'll know more then.

Not sure if it is the best deal. I paid £14700 with the VAT free option last year and got a number of options such as Amunsen +, Bluetooth phone, mats, black roof, black wheels, etc..

I'll see if they can throw in some mats and mudflaps etc, got to be worth asking, thanks for your comment.

Personally I'd see if you can order one to the spec you want there's nothing worse than thinking down the line should of waited an ordered everything I wanted on it, and with the offer on I'd spec it up with everything

Well, I've gone and ordered it!

Just the standard car at £14660 with mats and mud flaps thrown in, I really couldn't wait for a personalised spec car as I've got someone with cash to buy my Pug at a grand over book price and he won't wait until Xmas for it to be built.

I'm happy though, have been longing for this car for a while now and will be taking delivery at the end of September all being well.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me come to this decision from various threads and my numerous indicisions on whether to but new or used, it's all been valuable input and I thank you all.

Roll on the end of September!!

Well done!! Enjoy when you get it. Had mine for 13 months and 30k miles later still enjoying it every bit as the first day I got it.

Nice one! You'll really enjoy it. Had mine for 10k and one year now and it still puts a smile on my face every time I boot it.

Personally, I would have waited. There is nothing quite like putting your own "Stamp" On it!

That said, ENJOY!

picture of the fitted dual brake as promised....

its the thickness of the arm that is the problem... I believe he just used a bigger clamp, or made his own... not sure :)

Personal stamp can be applied by all the tweaks and things you add personally. Factory options are limited (oh and cr@p font!).

I would suggest getting the dealer to add the vRS lowering springs added at PDI (means they have3 year warranty and will really enhance the handling by all accounts). CC can be added by various garages (and adds the ability to get a variable APR map).

Things like sunglass holder, underseat storage, VAG bluetooth ca be added personally very easily

Loads of other mods people have done covered in the Furby 2 section.

Sorry for my ignorance but do you have more info about this please?

Skoda do a set of lowering springs for the vRS. They are apparently Eibachs, so a good make, but have a Skoda part no, so can be sourced by your dealer think I got quoted £180 supplied with about the same again to fit. Link to them here:

http://www.theskodashop.co.uk/product/VRS_Lowering_Springs_ZGB5J0071677

There is more info about lowering options, incl these, on an older thread. IIRC someone indicated that if fitted at PDI they form part of the three year warranty, otherwise I think is just a year.

Not had mine done yet as waiting until insurance renewal time as my current insurer charges a small fortune for an changes! They should stiffen up the suspension reducing body roll and also lower by 20ish mm making it look less like sitting on stilts.

Thanks for the link to the springs,I'll consider these at a later date after getting my vRS currently on order...if so I'll fit them myself.

Has anyone any longer term experience with these?

I'm thinking whether the tracking/camber settings then need changing to avoid rapid tyre wear?

I have had them on since 800miles and not had any bother with them. Not on 4500miles and no issues have arisen what so ever.

OK,having thought again, they should be OK long term.Firstly because they are Skoda approved and they don't advise any geometry changes, secondly it's an axle at the back, not IRS,so those settings cannot change, thirdly 20mm is not much to affect the front settings.

Do they affect the ride quality much?
