Advice/help on breaking my octavia RS after being written off

Featured Replies

As some of you may have seen my octavia had been in a bit of a smash and has now officially been written off as a Cat C Total Loss due to a rear end smash damaging the bumper/bootlid

I'm having the car back, at present they have offered me £1900ish for the car which I am contesting and have shown them examples worth more in similar condition/mileage and mechanical work (clutch/flywheel, bushes, brakes all round etc etc) I am hoping that this works out for me and gets a little more money. (but truth be told I'm not distraught with that amount)

A few Q's really..

Has anyone had any experience in breaking these?

Thinking realistically I assume it's going to be easier/more cost effective to sell the engine/ecu/loom/gearbox etc as all one unit to go into an engine conversion etc.. What do you think the time frame would be with 2 mechanically minded people completing the work? Is there any special tools involved in a straight engine lift out?

The wheels are all in pretty good nic with good tires so they'll go without much fuss hopefully as an upgrade for someone

As a rough guestimation any ideas i'd get for the main parts.. engine with no issues, wheels, interior

After those went i'd be inclined to give the rest away as good as and then scrap the body.

Thanks

I have fully stripped oné in 2 days

Any mods??

PM'D you lew

The biggest bit of advice I can give from experience ( not of a skoda) is a trolley of some kind ( I used 2 shopping trolleys with the baskets cut off) to lay the shell on to be moved about.

These can be bought from Morrisons for a £1 or a Token

Free at tesco, asda and sainsburys for the bigger ones lol

Go b and q get a proper one lol

:D

Depending on the floor surface you wont move the shell on a shopping trolly!

They are still dam heavy.

General parts are ten a penny mate these days. The mods are where the cash is.

Engine as a complete unit with everything is only way to sell them as there are that many auq out there and tbh its nothin special.

Wheels maybe 250 for them 300.

Gearbox 100 150

Engine complete with mapped ecu both keys all locks and loom 400-550 pos?

Front bumper 120

Rear ????

Interior not worth much at all unless in perfect condition.

I still have my imaculate fronts and just cant shift them.

David 8 might be havin the drivers on tho lol.

(Come on dave yours cheap mate)even fit it for you.

Good luck strippin mate. Unless you got the room in a garage id just remove parts people want.

Billy

Ps why now. Just as ive got a list written for all my parts ready to sell! Always something stoppin me stripping mine.............

Gl mate. Rip to another vRS

Must admit id rather buy stuff from your car which has a genuine reason for being stripped, rather than others where its being stripped coz its worth more in parts

Ha ha raf lol

Ill have lots up fs soon but not off the car as all these signs point to keepin her.....

Out of interest how much they sellin it back to you for?

Or is it 1900 and car back? Id be happy with that.

I had this with my 406HDi when it got wriiten off,

I didn't go through insurance i went through a claims firm thing and got paid out and got car back, me and a friend had a night with blocks of wood and a hammer and knocked dents out down side where clio had rolled into it,

I then put it on ebay and sold it and made another 450 quid on top of what i recieved as payout, altho now sort of wish i'd of repaired it and kept it as it cost me nothing to run

Ha ha raf lol

Yep around 1950 plus the car,. I've contested it as a matter of course

Thats good.

Ide take that for a std ish car then any mods sell and just sell whole car for 500 as spares orrepair?

Not worth the hassle of stripping a normal car imo

the other bit of advise dont look at ebay prices for an idea of what bits are worth !!!

rear brakes do not sell for £199 like you think lol what i offered is about right

standard car parts will be hard to sell on the engine will sell with box but to give you an idea i picked up a full engine icluding turbo etc etc and gearbox with wiring loom for £350 ;-)

Unless they are chocked full of mods there is no money ne more. Mainley due to so many out there.

Bad times

I watched a vrs engine go for 100 quid couple of months ago on ebay, i paid 30 quid for a rear caliper on ebay altho i considered that a steal.

Just stick it on ebay as it is and let somebody else have hassle of breaking it

id be interested in the whole car if you want to give a price pm me

id say 1950 plus the car is pretty fair, ive got mine on autotrader for 1899 and not getting much interest 03 plate 70000 miles

egg i give you 1500 ;-)
