Turbo - Oil questions

Featured Replies

OK, so am i right in saying the turbo uses the normal engine oil, and not its own supply?

Also, is oil pumping through the turbo always when the engine is running, or just when its actually spinning - eg, when on boost? ~1500rpm?

Planning my upgrade and always like to understand exactly how something works before fiddling!

PD150 and Uprated SMIC is here - Just need to start collecting all the 'bits'.

Thanks,

Mike

It uses the engine oil and is pumped round by the oil pump so whenever the engine is running. That's why you should let the turbo spin down before switching the engine off.

It's advised to change the feed pipes when changing the turbo.

Yeah, got the feed pipes covered, just checking up on how it all ties in.

Advisable to get a fresh oil change on changing a turbo then?

It's not essential but depends when it was last done and as to why the turbo is being replaced etc (did the old one fail?)

Personally I would do it anyway for the sake of a few quid.

No, the current one is fine, im just going PD150 for less strain on the turbo @ stage 1 remap for the time being, and so i have a bit more confidence in it - You read such bad storied about the KKK's!
