Throaty noise from engine - Felicia 1.3 classic

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Felicia 1.3 classic.

Recently I've noticed that the engine is geting noisey. Coming back from holiday the car seemed not to be pulling as hard and slowing down lots on the hills with my foot flat to the floor. It sounds very throaty/deep sort of growl (reminds me of something sporty).

My motor skill are very limited. I have checked the air filter, and the breather hoses are clear on the top of the engine. I've recently had the mid section of the exhaust replaced (and rechecked since) and apparently the rear section is full of water so will need doing at some point in the future. When they checked the exhaust they said that there was a rattle coming from the engine bay, possibly something in the sump.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly received.

Nick

Hi, hard to accurately guide from the post info but I'd be inclined to check the engine manifolds to rule out any joint problems or potential cracking etc. Also re-check the exhaust system to ensure nothings been missed. You shouldn't have an excess accumulation of water in the rear section and this may link to short journeys/runs sustained over a period of time? By investigation in and around the engine bay, you should be able to pinpoint the origin of the noise and hopefully that will guide further. Without additional information such as any changes in fuel consumption etc it's diffcult to say. Very best of luck

this can be as simple as an exhaust obstruction from inside rusted debris or a major dent.

since your motor skill are very limited, think of it as a bowels obstruction :) not too good, right? cramps, noises, fatigue, etc.

so take out rear muffler and see what is inside. you can make a short trip without it to see if engine performance changes.

A mod that I've heard of for dealing with a silencer full of water is to drill a small hole in the base of the box. Obviously, use a cordless drill for this, and about a 1/8" bit.

every rear muffler has that hole from factory.
