Xenon issues

Featured Replies

Hi all, I've only had the vrs a week or so now and not driven it alot at night, but I was driving it the other night a discovered that the headlight beam on dipped beam seems to be very low, I have factory fitted self levelling xenons and you can see them moving on initial start up but they never seem to raise high enough and only really light up the road immediately in front of the car and don't offer any elumination over more than about 2-3 metres from the front of the car, is there a way of re setting them or adjusting them manually, as you can imagine its not very good driving at night and the full beam is affective but seems to form a very focused area of light centrally in the middle of the road and doesn't really spread the light far and wide as I'd expect.

Anyone else had these issues and how did they resolve them?

Cheers

Steve

You can reset the level with vagcom iirc, to get a kinda base line, then I think you can tweak the level with the adjusters on the top of the headlights. If its as low as your say I think the best bet would be to start from scratch using both methods. I could be wrong but that's as I understand it.

Sorry for my ignorance but I am new to the more modern vag cars, what is Vagcom?

When you put the Lights ON and crank the Engine, do the Lights go 'down and then up and then settle' or just 'down and then settle'? If it is the latter, you don't need a Vagcom (VCDS) Cable to adjust, it already is adjusted/baselined, just open the Boot and turn the adjustment screws situated in the front of the Headlight to adjust the height.

Vagcom is a diagnostic programme for VAG cars.

I had my mate do it via vagcom after fitting coilovers.

Plugged it in and selected the correct numerical values and it did it itself.

Ask Ross (tech1e) for the values, he gave them to me
