CAR and WhatCar articles - Facelifted Yeti and Yeti v Dacia Duster

Featured Replies

CAR

In the latest edition of CAR magazine there is an article about forthcoming VW Polo and SEAT Ibiza based SUV’s to compete with the Yeti. CAR claim these are to be released in/after 2014, the article includes a “photo” of the 2013 facelifted Yeti which looks like the existing Yeti with Rapide style lights – pretty much what you would expect of a revised version with the new corporate nose.

WhatCar

This month WhatCar has a comparison of the Dacia Duster and Yeti, Yeti wins despite being £4,000 more expensive but the Duster sounds to be a lot of car for the money and I can see it appealing to buyers who maybe want a Yeti style vehicle for the price of a basic Supermini.

Inevitably WhatCar claim the Yeti is let down by a fidgety ride and noisy suspension. Only when you look at the details do you see they are testing an S variant but with optional 17” wheels – which explains the less compliant ride – but what is noisy suspension? I have certainly not heard the suspension on my Yeti working, it is remarkably smooth and quiet.

Incidentally I don’t want to open the 17” v 16” debate again - it has been done to death – but I think we all agree that 16” wheels provide a softer ride than 17”; perhaps this explains why WhatCar keep on about the ride standard of the Yeti!

From recollection Whatcar have always had a bee in their bonnet re the Yeti ride since day one in 2009. Again not wishing to extend the Moon v Dolomite saga :giggle: then from further recollection, my Yeti SE (standard spec) was more noisy but more due to wheels banging over pot hole/road imperfections, that the current special build does not appear to suffer from.

TP

If you drive with the window open you can hear the suspension working, but no more than any other car.

Always get the impression that What Car writers have a thing against Skodas IMO

Any chance of the "CAR" article/photo, or is it the same as the one shown in above post at "garagecar"?

Always interested to look at this sort of thing but this is basically a rehash of speculations that have been circulating for a while now, including the picture of the supposed new look Yeti. I think the stuff about a new Yeti and a new bigger SUV is probably right, but I'm not convinced that the photoshopped picture is anything more than speculation.

But I do like the look of this 'new' Yeti - retaining the distinctive round lights but with a rather neater grille/main lights layout.

I agree.

I certainly agree that I hope they keep the round fog lights. I'm just not reading anything into that picture.
