Octavia Stereo Fuse keeps blowing out

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have a 2000 Skoda Octavia. I have a sendai aftermarket stereo in it which I installed last year with no issues. All was well except for the radio reception being a bit off but that was the same with the old original radio in any case. A few months back I had a new ECU put in and when I tried the radio a few days later it did not work. I assumed it was just a fuse and continued on.

However it has not come back for me. I have narrowed down the symptoms which are as follows.

  • Disconnect the radio and put in a 15amp fuse as specified in the fuse box.

  • Check that the 15 amp fuse in the stereo is ok.

  • Reconnect the power and the fuse box fuse blows immediately, plus if I examine the stereo fuse it has almost blown but was stopped just short of blowing by the fuse box one blowing first.

  • If I put a 25 amp fuse in the fuse box then as expected the stereo fuse will immediately blow once power is connected.

Does this sound like a short in the stereo unit or is there too much power coming to it?

Just to clarify, it worked perfectly in the past.

I appreciate any help ye can give me on this.

All the best,

Barry.

Do you have a spare Stereo to try out? If yes, connect it and see if the Fuse still blows. If it does, the problem is with the wiring in the Car, else you know it is with the Sendai Stereo.

If it is a wiring issue in the Car, it could be with a "very loose contact" somewhere between from the Fuse Box to the Stereo.

If it is a problem with the Stereo, it could very well be a short somewhere within or in wiring of the Stereo.
