rsap, whats the point? no email ?

Featured Replies

i have the samsung s3, which connected easily with my new superb,

put in the 16 digit password to conect etc, no problem.

my question is ,

why does my car need the '3g' connection ??

i mean, on my phone when its connected, i have no signal, or internet. The car has basicaly took over my phone. why does it do this ?

is it supposed to do this?

i use email alot for my work, but i cant receive emails to my phone because the car has stolen my signal !!!

is there another method ?

thanks

Derek

Well surely you shouldn't be reading your emails while driving your car?

anyhow, your car doesn't need the 3G connection at all, whats happening is when the phone is running in RSAP mode (Remote Sim Access Protocol) the bluetooth module in the car is accessing the SIM directly from the phone as if you had taken the SIM out your phone and plugged it directly into the car, i.e.. the car becomes the phone rather than the traditional method of a bluetooth hands free kit working like a glorified headset whereby your calls are still made by the handset.

Had a quick look on one of the android forums and it is possible to disable RSAP on your phone

If you want to disable the built-in rSAP you can do so by renaming /system/lib/bluez-plugin/sap.so with Root Explorer or similar tool.

However if you feel confident enough to try this you can, then delete the profile with the car and re-pair them, but if you aren't then you may be stuck.

Cheers mate,

Its nothing to do with reading emails whilst driving, its not being notified that you have emails.

I just want sure if the car was supposed to take over the full sim or not, but you have explained this to me.

I have now hooked the car back upto the bluetooth, but this time, when it asked me to allow sim access,I clicked never. But I did allow it to have access to my phonebook, and my handsfree works perfect now and I still can receive my emails via my phone.

Thanks for the reply mate, its appreciated.

B*ll***s!!

Biggest issue for me about rsap is that when you arrive at destination you can't continue your call after getting out of car as I drops the call.

Not bull mate,

Emails are a highly important pat of my job,

And driving is an important pay of my job.

So, I don't answer calls whilst driving, and i'm certainly not going to try and read an email either.

I value my job for the income it provides, and the goodies that the income provides,

Let's not tar everyone with the same brush ;-)

The big problem with non RSAP mode is that you are relying on your phone having a good signal since it is still making and receiving calls via its transmitter, so if its in a suit pocket or briefcase then it may not be getting the optimal signal. RSAP on the other hand uses signal boosters, a higher power transmitter and an aerial on the roof of the car. When I had my Superb, a work colleague was using her business phone to make a business call in my car (Passenger) but the call was constantly being dropped due to poor signal. On the other hand my business phone (same network) had almost full signal on the Superb RSAP kit, so she had to resume her call using the RSAP connected phone and it never dropped once.

if you know the APN settings for your data connection, it is possible to enter these under the bluetooth settings in the superb and get a data connection via RSAP. My handset is very basic, and my company does not allow data on non blackberry handsets so never tried it.

Mmmm, I never knew that the rsap was a more powerful signal,

so in theory, the superb takes control of the full sim, and I will then piggy back an internet connection,

So I can receive emails.

I'll have to give that a try, I did notice on the settings, there was a bit for,apn etc etc.

Cheers

The problem with this solution is that the bluetooth DUN profile is not supported by Android ICS. So I only get an internet connection on my laptop....

Jeez, what is it with some people!?

Who's to say the OP doesn't want to be able to receive and reply to emails when not on the move?

What's your problem too? Quick to jump to conclusions

My *******s comment was referring to fact that OP said he doesn't read emails while driving. So he wants to know that an email is there but he's not going to read it? If you are not going to read the email until end of journey then what's the point of knowing that an email is there? So it's very unlikely that's the case - that's all the point I was making

It wasn't any damning comment and it wasnt condemning it, the OP can do want he wants to do when driving, it was just a comment that anyone who wants to know an email is there but is then not going to read it is probably talking *******s that's all.

Cheers

Check out BlueVPN (free) in the Play Store which is an ICS-specific solution for implementing a DUN client.
