octavia 4x4 handling issues

Featured Replies

hi there looking for a bit of info folks.i recently bought a set of 18inch alloys with 225/40/18 tyres.heres where it goes a bit wrong.i bought these second hand but effectively new as they had only covered about 200 miles unfortunatley they where on a 2006 octavia and where as i assumed they would fit my 2001 im sure you all know the pcd is different 2001(5x100)2006(5x112)again i thought im getting those on my car so purchased some lovely new pcd adapters which added 20mm to the track.original wheel offset is 50 new is 45 so if im right thats 15mm wider track each side.

so now they look the preverbial dogs but the car doesnt seem so sure footed went round a tight roundabout at 30mph and got a bit Tiff nedell which was alright for me but screaming wife and kids kinda took the fun out of it.

so my questions are what psi should i have in that size tyre and should anything ive said affect the handling. cheers peeps in advance

hi, if the original wheel offset was 50, and the new is 45 then already the wheels will be 5mm further out (the lower the offset the further the wheels stick out) so with 20mm adapters that makes 25mm wider track each side which will make it handle a lot worse, putting extra strain on bearings etc.also the wheels will tend to 'tramline' and follow every bump and irregularity in the road

i remember when i fitted some 8x17 audi rims with 225/45/17 tyres to my octavia a few yrs back, they lasted about an hour before changing them back as it handled ****!

tyre pressure should be around 30 - 32psi

nice wheels though!

thanks for the info looks like like the wheels have to go then but also just noticed the rim width is 8.5 so tyres are slightly stretched.had a bit of advice same as you said just wanted a second opinion lol.have to live with them for a little longer as original tyres are scrap and spent all my cash on shiny new ones my bad.thank you again
