Recent Fabia VRS Owner and a nightmare start!

Featured Replies

Hi there, glad I found this forum, seems liek there are alot of very clued up skoda owners around here, i've recently bought a 53 plate skoda fabia vrs and I absolutely love it, however so far i've had to get tracking done, new wheels, new steering arms and now i've encountered a bit of a nightmare with the power steering.

I've been trying to post in the ask a techie section but it doesn't seem to let me so I thought i'd put this out there on here (sorry if this should be posted elsewhere) .

So my power steering failed a few weeks ago, no warning light came on, it just seemed to dwindle out, a friend of mine suggested it was the steering angle sensor, but the mechanic I took it to plugged it in and then suggested a new alternator, he then discovered this wasn't the case afterwards and had to take it out, he then replaced a wire from the alternator and cleaned all the contacts which has made the steering about 50% lighter however it's still not right and is still stiff to turn.

I purchased a replacement pre-used steering angle sensor and popped it in myself, however this still hasn't solved the problem and the mechanic is now suggesting it may be the pump. I understand these are expensive and this would be a mini-disaster.

I wondered if anybody had any input on this mystery as it is becomign a massive pain in the arse, I love my VRS but am really not loving all these problems :-( .

look forward to hearing any input,

Pete

Hello Pete and welcome along

Sorry to hear of your woes, I can't offer any help I'm afraid but I'm sure there'll be someone along soon that can

Whats the battery like? My PAS packed in from time to time as my battery came to the end of it's life. A new battery solved this completely.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome mate, try new battery as said. And in future to ensure you get the most help and visibility, post in the fabia 1 section and you'll get more help.

thanks for the replies, took it back to the mechanic today and unfortunately he's sure it's the steering pump, but thanks for the comments, I'm going to see if I can attach a different battery before splashing out on a pump, just to make sure!
