Will ventlock prevent locking?

Featured Replies

Thinking me getting one me those vent lock things to keep the boot slightly open when parked for the dog. Read somewhere that it might prevent me from locking the car cos the car will notice the boot is open. Is that true?

Hi Steve,

I once used the key fob to "release" the tailgate without actually opening it, then I unlocked the car using the key fob.

Shortly after re-locking the car with the key fob, the alarm sounded. So yes, the car noticed the boot was still open.

It's a bit late in the day now but tomorrow, you might want to wedge the tailgate open an inch or two, then press the button on the driver's door, then lock the car with the key fob to see what happens.

Haven't tried manually locking, however mine refuses to lock with the remote if the boot or any door is ajar

Mine keeps locking all others doors except the one which is left open. Of course car keeps telling me that a door has been left open by NOT blinking signal lights.

My car refuses to lock herself only when driver's door has been left open.

Thanks for all the answers and sorry for the double post. Will sort that out on the computer later.

Been thinking about this. I assume the car either uses sensors in the latch or the door frame to work out he the tailgate is shut or not. If its the latch then it might need to be grabbing something to think it is shut. In which case to test it I need to leave the tailgate ajar but with something in the catch that pretends to be the thing it holds onto at the bottom of the frame. I will try later at a more civilised hour!

Why not just leave the windows open a little? You can fully lock the car this way -there are various products that you can get to cover the gap. I have Privacy Shades on my Fabia -you can wind the window all the way down and they stay in place.

I have heko wind deflectors on all windows, when it's hot I leave all the windows open about an inch... air flows through, but it's not immediately obvious that the windows are open - avoiding advertising to opportunistic thieves

It seems I can fool the Roomster into thinking the boot is shut simply by pushing a screwdriver shaft into the catch. It even does the re-locking trick.

Hi , i have just tryed my Roomster ( 2012 ) closed all 4 doors but kept the boot door aprox 6" open . Double locked the car with the key fob , found all 4 doors were locked with the boot door open , hope this helps

Another Way to do it would be to have the car fully locked and press the unlock boot only on the fob (centre button)

Made my own by using a old plastic coated storage hook. Removed the thread and put in an extra bend. Works a treat. Locked the car with it installed and left it for an hour with no problem.

Might put in an extra bend at the catch end to make a loop.
