From "boy racer" to "family man", humour me...

Featured Replies

As I have previously stated I can NOW get everything I need for my holiday (camping it was) in the boot. I have no licence that allows me to pull a trailer and on the long drive from Yorkshire to Cornwall, I didn't fancy a roof box dragging my mpg down. A bigger boot suits me just fine,as does the more cabin space. Trust me, I'm not making this up, I DID own an Octy estate for 2 years! If anyone fancys a boot luggage challenge bring it on! Loser has to wear Bermuda shorts and Hawaiin shirt for a day!

  • A baby seat will make a good first addition to the car. Followed by a box of baby stuff and a packet of wet ones in the glove box.

  • Considering the 1.8TSI Octavia is only 20hp down on your boca - i'd probably want a remap at minimum and turn that 160 into 200ps...

  • The i40 is a cracking car, I had one for two weeks. The boot is quite a bit bigger than the Octavia (not quite as big as the Peugeot) its loaded with tech and handles well too. Turns a lot of heads as

A 'who can fill the boot best' challenge?

Fear not OP the boy racer side of you is long gone. Enjoy your pipe and slippers... :)

Full steel frame bunk bed, in my octy hatch!

I'm not saying you're making it up. I'm saying:

1) you don't need a 'family' car. You need a 'camping' car as you carry more stuff around than the average family

2) you are ignoring the science of boot litreage, which is possibly a valid point if you need to carry lots of large items but doesn't apply to the average family who have a few big bits then lots of small bits they can pack around the boot using more/all of the available space.

lol!!!

I think the point here is that we are clearly not all the same.

I know friends who cart kids round in their Elise's (yes - I had a Quinny Zapp which fitted in the boot!) and others who have to have a S Max.

Big cars are certainly handy at times, but few people need them all the time and if you do pack light, your car size can come down significantly.

Get a dog then your totally buggered.

Just back from trip away. Me in the front driving, missus sitting behind keeping an eye on the little one beside her in car seat. Front passenger seat loaded. Roofbox loaded. My seat further forward than i would like so she fits behind - all crammed in but still reasonably comfortable. Dog sprawled out lording it in the boot. Go figure. Its a dogs life as they say.

Have to admit the VRS boot is huge compared to my 3 series BMW. That boot was really shallow. Problem is that as long as the dog fits in the boot any excess space is a waste as its a tad unfair to cram bags in with the dog.
