When you fit Bolaro or Columbus etc that came out of one car and fitted into another do you need a radio code as I thought these were recognised by the ECU and only worked in the car it came out of.

You need to get the code from the dealer. to get the code from the Dealer the registered keeper needs to go in with the V5 and obtain it. They will also probably charge you for it too.

As said, a code will need to be obtained from the dealer. It's far easier for the current owner to obtain this first, before selling the unit.

VCDS coding may need to be tweaked but the unit should work straight away. Always worth a quick VCDS scan once it's been installed.

Which unit have you got in your 11-plate now Andy, or were you just curious about the process?

I have a Bolero in mine Steve, I asked as the Auto sparky friend who fitted the Bury Kit was talking about how Safe radio's are now a days. (He removed the radio to fit the Bury) How some don't need codes and only work in the car they came out of, I'm just curious really. Bury kit is ace by the way. Are you sending me the email? updates?
