These come as standard with a 1.6 102bhp engine...what can they be tuned up too??

Joel

Don't know the tuning possibilities but had one as a hire car when smashed my golf bout 4 yrs ago.

It was actually great fun and felt far far far quicker than my golf GTi 2.0 115 bhp.

Suppose thats because it was! An overlooked little car

Yeah definatly, the Zetec S is even quicker I believe. Very nippy things!

It's the same as most normally aspirated engines. There aren't huge increases to be made by a remap , so you'll find it quite expensive to get much more than an extra 10-15%

The most you could stretch to is about 110hp but relative to a standard car the on road performance would be no different. An engine extraction and a racing puma head, ported pollished, lightened and balanced, cammed with a stand alone ECU on 98 ron you may achieve 130-140 hp. Or a standard car with a van aeken charger is about 140-150 i think.

The only one with a 1.6 engine was the Zetec S, the normal Zetec's usually had 1.25 or 1.4 litre engines.

0-60 was in just over 10 seconds, so a 2.0 Golf GTI Mk4 115 bhp would still beat one in a straight line just.... but the Fezza would feel quicker.

Apparently quite tunable, getting them up to 120+ bhp is not that hard really.

If they are the same engine as the newer 1.6 focus engines which i think they are they are closer to 115 standard

think with bluefin (remap) filter and exhaust and mabie cams you can break 130bhp

There's a bloke around where I live who's done a full Puma 1.7 Conversion on his Zetec S with Nitrous :D

Very fast!

Everyone says that about their cars though... I dont buy it myself.

My second car. Very good handling as standard. They tend to put out a little more than quoted but not always and not by much. I've seen quite a few good buys out there recently, SWMBO wants one... :)

Well done for not barrying it up. Nice car :)

Why thank you Paul. ;)

The main changes were Magnex Cat-Back, K&N Panel Filter, Superchip (I know  ), Magnecor KV85's, Denso Iridium Plugs, Mintex Discs & Pads, OMP Strut-Brace, Toyo T1-S' (I hated the P6000's  ), some nice ICE, Toad Ai606 alarm and other little touches. :)

I've never barried a car and if I did I'd expect to get shot...

Have you got shoulder harnesess in the back seats :)

Do you live in a trailer Liam? ;)

Yes they WERE shoulder harness pads in the back seat. My nan (whose caravan that is ;) ) bought them about a week prior to me being there for the weekend, so they had to go in... :o then out when I got home. :D

my z-s was rr'd with 122bhp and 118lb/ft. it was pretty much standard. only a pipercross.

yamaha designed engine. :D

the handling is the best thing about it. better than a vts! voted no.7 in 2001 drivers cars survey. no.1 was the racing puma.

i had so much fun in my z-s....i'll never forget it :(

I remember you could get all sorts for them, turbo's, superchargers, throttle bodies. It's basically a case of 'how deep is your pocket'.

www.shawspeed.com are the gods who specialise in the sigma (zetec-se) engine.

turbo's and supercharger's are available. the early example's of these weren't very reliable with a lot of oil problems. but later conversions have good results.

personally i'd stick with shawspeed because they seem to know what they're doing :D

I had a zetec-s before the fabia and have to say i regret changing it lots, it was featured in Fast Ford last may and ran a tuned up 1.7 puma engine, wide track suspension and smoothed bodywork - if only the fabia handled like this used to I'd be a happy man :D

i think you meant www.zetecs.com, totally free..no silly membership fees etc. the original zetec-s site. lol

I know its off topic, but I had a red one of these. Fantastic car excellent handling and was very nippy. Much much better than the Saxo's of the day. However dont try and get passengers in the back seat, unless they are very small. Engine I think is a tuned version of the 1.6 from the Focus. However, I used to have a 1.4 fiesta with the zetec engine and this was much more smoother.

Now though I have the best of both worlds, a roomy supermini with fanastic engine with the help of a tuning box which I guess is pumping out 150 bhp.

Smart mate  Looks like a laugh and a half!

zetecs.com would never of been a money taking machine. it's always been about a free community. :D

i still love the z-s. if i could afford it i'd buy another one. i think i know more about the zetec-s than anyone. maybe even more than ford lol
