Two wheels leaking air - wheel & rim

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I took my winter wheels out for a good clean and found the pressure had dropped on two of them. After topping them up and testing again a week later I have found they are indeed leaking.

I took them to a trusted garage ad they had a look and said the tyres themselves are fine, but air is leaking out between the wheels & rims.

They said for £20 they can attempt to seal them around the the lip where air is coming out(?).

Has anyone ever had experience of this before? it is a lot cheaper then replacing all the rims!

Cheers guys :)

Any wheel damage?

Nope, alloys are fine!

I mean between the rim and sidewall? Could have been caused when the tyres were changed/fitted?

Wheels look fine as well, I did end up taking them to the garage and there was signs of dust & debris between the tyre & alloy. He took a wire brush and gave the alloys a good scrubbing down, applied some tyre beading sealant, cleaned the tyres up and re-fitted them. There was definitely signs of leakage around the rims so hopefully this will have solved the problem! Will give them a week and check the pressures! :)
