Furby tuning...

Featured Replies

I am taking ownership of a sparkling new black furby in about 2 weeks time and am looking to the future...

Have already been looking for re-map specialists and have found one (Angel Tuning) who can get around 174BHP and 300+ lb/ft!!! torque for

Let the engine bed in first atleast a few x,000 miles on it

yes it does effect your insurance, best phone up before you pay for a remap.

HTH

Make absolutely sure you can afford to insure a remapped car, and more importantly, that you can keep your existing insurer - a lot of them won't touch a remapped (or modified generally) car.

The air intake & green filter won't cause problems generally, the strut brace usually gets accepted too (at a cost perhaps?).

Warranty = void. You'll be well-advised to check with your dealer to make sure they are relatively mod-friendly, ie that they won't refuse ALL warranty work due to an unrelated mod. Note also that seemingly unrelated mods may be related.

Main things you'd void warranty on would be engine and drive-train related parts such as gearbox, clutch, driveshafts, that kind of stuff.

Eerrrrr Just don't tell your insurance company........afterall, it's a remap and unless you have revo or jabba or whatever stickers on your car then there is no way of telling!

With revo, you can turn it off, for when you go for service. Best run her in, then think about a remap!!!

I'm sure Skoda UK could compare the contents of the ECU to their standard map, as could several mappers. ;) You are an idiot if you do not declare any mods you make to the insurance company - besides why bother paying your premium at all as you won't be insured!

To save anyone else doing it...NO. Oky back to civilised.

This is totally illegal and you can't turn it off if you have a bump and my insurance man says no to your insurance.

Ok, chances are remote, but I'm sorry it might be me you hit and I'm claiming of your insurance.

It's really not wise, they will find any reason / means to not pay, why hand them one on a plate.

See your point, but a remap is virtually undetectable........insurance assesors don't go to the extremes of testing a cars ecu after a bump!!!!

If you fail to declare material facts about your car then you are not insured. Period.

I have the same respect for those who don't declare their mods as for those who drive around uninsured - i.e. NONE. And yes, I will report it to the appropriate authorities if I find out about it too. Same reasons as already mentioned.

It is NOT something that's up for discussion if you have any sense. Not only will it be found out, but also, if you cannot afford to insure it, can you afford to replace it ?

If you were the only person or one of very, very small numbers of people to mod the Furby vRS you'd have a chance they (insurers) wouldn't check. But let's face it, modding the vRS is pretty common so insurers will know that. I bet it's on the list of things to check, and when you do have that accident will you really be reprogramming your ECU whilst you or your passenger is bleeding to death? I thought not..

And this is me trying to remain friendly ;) Seriously, don't even go there.

All you need is VAG COM or VAS 5051 and I could tell you if a car has been remapped or not, its not rocket science.
