Scout's 2nd Birthday

Featured Replies

It's my Scout's second birthday today (just remembered the road tax). Just over 18,000 miles of totally trouble free motoring. The only things that came up on the service were a weeping shock absorber, a slightly damaged drivers seat bolster and a corroded rear badge. All replaced under warranty, no questions. Have also fitted a K&N filter - bit noisier and lots of extra performance (maybe?!).

Not bad after the rigours of two years of a young family, camping holidays, trips to the tip for the school, zooming around France, and one bad winter. It was unstoppable with winter tyres - Dunlop Wintersport 4Ds on Yeti Spitzberg wheels.

The original Dunlop Sport1a tyres are down to 4mm all round but should last another summer. All this and 50mpg+ pretty much regardless of driving style once outside of London. Great car and I've paid it off now!

What constituted the damage to the driver's side bolster?

My 14 month old Scout (currently at 24k miles) has a creased/slightly collapsed drivers side bolster (on the outer side) which started to show wear after only a few weeks. I wasn't sure how much was down to my non-skinny backside as the seats aren't the widest I've ever sat on.

Yup - that sounds like the same problem as mine - the side bolster is bent in and creased. The dealer ordered the internal foam and refitted it. The side airbag unit is in there so worth fixing I think.
