Rear crash bar fixing!

Featured Replies

My octy vrs has no rear impact bar!

The gypo garage i got the car must have removed it along with the towbar it had to help sell it (tell tale hole in bumper - unnoticeable untill you get under the car)

So ive got myself a 2nd hand impact bar. Question is does anyone know how its fixed before i rip the bumper off and realise i have the wrong fixings?

Cheers my dears!

the rear impact bar is held on by 3 nuts/bolts not sure which on each side, 6 in total, not sure what mm they, but it covers the chassis rail holes, it was last year i fitted my towbar hope this helps you

Found a picy in an other threadto give you a preview

when a tow bar is fitted, it replaces the crash bar, so when the nice garage removed the towbar they didn't feel the need to fit a crash bar in its place!

its fixed using 13mm headed bolts (m8 thread?), 4 each side iirc

Yes i seen these studs but i was unsure if they were the correct fixings.... Looks rather weak as the front crash bar has big sturdy bolts

To me the studs looked like weedy m6? It was months i ago i had a look so got a lot of m6/8 nuts and washers from work... But then i thought there might be bolts too

what he said, 13mm nuts it'll be then!

So m8! Got some of them!

Yes i know i seen my one was missing and thought oh crap ive bought a smash repair motor... Has a scuff nsr on the bumper aswell

But then noticed a notch in the underside of the bumper. Pretty ****ed they removed it and decided the car didnt need the crash bar re-instating! Will the crash bar make the rear flex less or is it entirely a safety addition?

just there to stop the bumper caving in i rekon

Just check all the rubber bungs have been replaced in the rear panel if they have removed the bar, as official wiring kits replace the grommet when the wiring is fed through as it is part of the loom. But as been said above, just nuts hold the beam on.

I know I am a bit late to the party, but this image show the three studs/nuts for the offside mounting of the rear bumper. When I fitted mt tow bar, I nipped the nuts back on and one of the spot-welded stubs broke off in my fingers......
